Humpday three-point update. [More:]
1. Working from home today, I was at my desk before 6am. But my net connection has been intermittent and slow today, which is frustrating when I'm trying to work via the horrible, laggy remote office portal.

2. I went to the supermarket at lunchtime and lucked out on some reduced price aspargus, flat (donut) peaches and cilantro. I also bought a monkfish tail and some basa (a white fish).

3. I was going to make this for dinner, but am out of paprika and they had none in the supermarket, so I froze the monkfish and will have the basa, cooked with lots of lemon and cilantro instead, with roast vegetables (peppers, courgettes and asparagus). So, smelly pee day tomorrow :-)
1. Meh.
2. Bleh.
3. *sigh*

1. Tonight is my last dance class until October. It's funny how something I was so freaked out about has become something that I look forward to and am planning on really pursuing.

2. Work has been ridiculously slow as of late. I still haven't heard back from Drexel and I'm really tempted to just tell UMD to go fuck themselves. :-/

3. I really wish I could be more forthcoming with my parents. I have questions and issues that I could really use their advice on, but I know that mentioning certain things goes about as well as a discussion on declawing circumsized cats goes on Mefi.

1. The mister and I picked out carpeting and vinyl for the bedroom and bathroom.

2. The hazmat team is going to try to get everything done in one day rather than three since we have one bathroom. Dang, I was looking forward to a hotel pool.

3. Thinking about seeing District 9 this weekend. Any reviews from the bunnies?

PS to sperose: Does either parent use email? Can you converse that way?

1. got up at 8 am to let plumbers in. it's not 11:30 and they're not here yet.

2. in either case I have to kick them out by five since I have court tonight for the whole car thing.

3. The temperature dropped so I can finally get some sewing done. I've been unable to for a while, it was so hot in my apartment that I was leaving sweat marks on things and actually broke something[1] when it slipped out of my hands.
[1]fortunately nothing expensive, just the dowel portion of a gadget for turning loops of fabric inside-out.

1. What Specklet said.

2. Love this 90°F weather. Except that it's given me tons of excess energy, which makes it hard to sleep or sit at my desk all day. Hopefully the lunchtime walk will help.

3. It's weird how you can be surrounded by friends and acquaintances all day long, every day, and yet feel totally, completely alone, and lonely.

1. My daughter's band got a rave review (bonus: video of the performance)

2. Today's MeFi post about back issues of Popular Science led me to the article featuring my dad.

3. Me? I'm just basking in the glow.

1. I've been procrastinating a lot at work, which sucks.
2. My new furniture is being delivered on Friday, and some friends are coming over to make-over my narrow but deep pantry so that it has roll-out shelves.
3. I'm excited at throwing the mecha/mefi/intownfriends Halloween party. I'm also sorta anxious about it.

Deborah--They read emails, but that's not really helpful when they'll just ambush me with it later (and usually when I'm unprepared to put up with their asshattery.)

Stew--I am intrigued about these roll-out shelves.

How does that work?? It's been 90ish in my house for weeks and I've been so lethargic I can't even move. I'd kill for some excess energy.

1. no progress on the career issues and it's making me a basket case. I am definitely in this rat-brain-stress-loop and I am starting to worry my family which makes me more anxious.
2. made a very delicious blueberry oat bread (not cake or muffinlike at all, hooray), unfortunately, I left it in the oven much too long when I got distracted by the phone. It's still edible, but not as tasty as it should be.
3. helping a friend launch his campaign for the state legislature this weekend.

1. The sky outside right now is amazing- huge, billowing white clouds and the sun at just the right angle to create all kinds of highlights and shadows. I'm mesmerized.

2. Work going unexpectedly smoothly, and looks to remain that way for awhile. Yay.

3. I wish I didn't know there's a new, cheaper PS3 coming out. Must not spend money, must not spend money, must not spend money...

1. Never heard from that job I was waiting on. Boo on them.
2. Recruiters are so unpleasant, I had better get a job soon, or I'm just going to stop looking to avoid having to deal with them.
3. It is HOT HOT HOT in NYC today. I have stuff to do, but I'm doing as much of it inside until the very last second, in hopes I can get out after it's cooled off a little.

I am intrigued about these roll-out shelves.
They are the best. My mom has a couple of them, so handy. You open the cabinet, slide the shelf out, and hey, there's the box or pan from the very back you need, right where you can get it without taking everything in front out and replacing it all over again.

She also has one of those swing out pantry cabinets, which are also pretty cool.

in contrast, my kitchen cabinets date to the early 1950s, and are designed for someone about half a foot taller than me, as I can't reach the top two shelves. For as little as we all cook now compared to then things sure are more convenient now!

1. Sweating profusely - smell not unpleasantly like warm bread.

2. Going to the pool to cool off and bring Meeks with, hopefully.

3. Going to read about Asperger's Syndrome as part of my new volunteer effort with kids on the spectrum.

1. 3 sleeps until we leave for New Zealand!
2. I still have to buy a bunch of gifts for people
3. And I have to finish my week's work by thursday afternoon. I'm on track for that, though.

1. Spent all morning working on reorganizing office, cleaning and gathering stuff for recycling. Moved printers and computer, so ended up spending several hours getting everything recognized on the network. Not my strongest ability!
2. Not sleeping well at all - am very anxious about several items that I must face.
3. Trying to loose some of those extra pounds, so am limiting calories. Very tired of carrots. Missing chocolate something fierce.

1. survived family vacation and a few extra family days on either side; trying not to write too much online about it since a lot of it comes down to "hey that was great except for my mom who is crazy"
2. being home is so terrific
3. I am going to the pool

1. It's going to be near 100F today. . .yuk.
1a. I get to be in my air conditioned office pretty much until 4 but then tossed out into the heat. . .I'll propose a movie to my wife . .that will get us out of the really hot part of the day.

2. Tried to surprise my wife for her b-day yesterday. . .which was the agreement. . .it blew up. . .she did not like the first thing I chose (kayaking in a local estuary). . .so I said, well OK here's what I have planned next, then after than here's what I have planned. . .do you dislike those also? It turned out OK, I guess but it would be nice if she'd just gone with the flow. . .I am pretty sure I would have.

3. Ate too much last night, and then again this morning at a company annual breakfast.

3. Going to read about Asperger's Syndrome...

I was so thankful when this didn't end with ...in an attempt to self-diagnose myself and refer to myself as an Aspie like it's a special special club you people who smile and understand emotions can never join.

1. Had a long talk with the producer who wants me to star in a pilot for a web series last night; now I have to figure out how to drop my "southern accent" in exchange for something more marketable. The problem? I've never even lived in the south and have no idea how I'm supposed to go about sounding like a newscaster robot.

2. My rainbow fingernails looks like Skittles.

3. Sent off fawning thank you notes to interviewers. COME ON, BABY, MOMMA NEEDS A NEW WAY TO PAY THE RENT

1. Did 14.5mi on the bike yesterday, 20 miles today! But that's probably my endurance limit at this level, good to know. It's around double what I could do on my old bike.

2. New widescreen TV makes life so much better. Well, so much easier to ignore.

3. Rat-brain stress-loop sounds about right on the other stuff. Running out of time to get into bankruptcy, dad's Medicare ran out, not sure we can afford what he needs in care without selling off property and just feel like that's major FAIL.

Stew--I am intrigued about these roll-out shelves.

Yeah, so am I. Basically my friend was over a couple of weeks ago, saw the pantry and said, "Hey, my partner made some roll-out shelves for his studio. Maybe he can help you make some for this." And then she called back and offered for both of them to come over and install ceiling fans and these shelves. She's also giving me 6 blueberry bushes. Wow!

Update:
Looks like hazmat crew will be here Monday and it is going to take at least two and probably three days.

sperose: It was just a thought. When there's something sensitive for the mister and I to talk about I'll do that with him and he's fine with it. It helps stop my stupid crying when talking about something emotional (or whatever). Eventually we talk face to face but by that time I'm calmer and can talk about whatever it is rationally.

1. Best Buy did not sell me a TV mounting bracket, so installers could not mount it to the wall. No spares in the truck? No way to run an installation business.

2. Son's girlfriend made me white chocolate-cashew fudge. May have to kick out the son.

3. Coffee's ready.

1. My shoes are not waterproof

2. We're being told to prepare for the Pittsburgh G-20 Conference as if it were a blizzard or hurricane. No one's going to be able to go to work or school for two days because they're going to close down most of the bridges and tunnels.

3. Really feel like I'm getting into the swing of my job, I hope that the company lasts.

1. My daughter's boyfriend is giving her a car and moving so he can be near her down at school (yikes).

2. My work is boring, I don't get enough hours and barely pays enough, but there are no other jobs to be had so I should be grateful.

3. No time to go on a long bike ride to get rid of this angst.

4. I think I won at court. He showed, agreed with everything I said, and then claimed "well, yes, that's all true but it wasn't my fault. The bank repo'd out of spite." Which, legally, doesn't seem strong to me. But I won't find out for a week or two, and it'll be by mail. There were tons of people there, but they called me first!

5. My bathroom is GUTTED. Toilet still works, but the shower won't until tomorrow. We're also getting a new sink. Turns out the leak is ancient, and horrid. There was mold in the walls. Lots of it.

6. spaghetti for dinner! yay, the temperature dropped enough that I can cook without sweating.

1. Wishing I was danf's wife - I would LOVE to go kayaking! Haven't worked up the courage to rent one on a local lake yet...

2. Took my sons swimming at a lake yesterday, where there actually was a breeze that made you a bit chilly whilst in the cool lake water. A fish tried to sample my finger. Gorgeous day.

3. Not looking forward to working tomorrow night with my new department manager. He is very difficult to read, as a person. Hopefully he won't be around long and my old manager will be back.

1. Feeling much better but still lack motivation. Work was like wading through sludge, but I kicked butt at my presentation this morning.

2. Trees are down all over the city. I'm kind of upset about that.

3. I got a new haircut, and am going out with a friend tomorrow. Both things that conspire to give me a whole new worldview.

1. Hand dug 'taters at a neighbor's farm to earn some seconds to get us through the winter after our own 'taters failed miserably. (Note to self: Call seed company to find out if it was just us or if there's an issue with this years batch.)

2. Had a freelance gig fall in my lap. A traditional ad agency needs some content management juju.

3. BONUS COMBO POULTRY UPDATE: The turkeys have moved to pasture and are staring at me, vulture-like, as I work. The 25 chickens we raised for our own supply have moved to the freezer/compost pile. I get two weeks off broiler duty before 150 chickens and 15 ducks show up.

1.The neighbors on my floor are being snots about the kind of furniture they find acceptable for our common space: only antiques/handmade.

2.I'd wanted to come to London and Brussels this month, but illness and renovation issues got in the way. Very disappointed that I won't get a chance to see Specklet's garden.

3.Still need to get my master bath toilet fixed.

1.) Man and Boy have returned from their trip, and my house is no longer spooky and empty.

2.) My puppy just chewed up a coke can. Why? Gods only knows. But she was quite proud of the destruction. Shards of sharp red aluminum everywhere in my yard.

3.) I'm trying to convince a 6 year old that grapes ARE TOO as good a snack as homemade chocolate chip cookies...a suspicious number of which disappeared between the time I went to bed and the time I got up and saw a chocolate smeared face happily asleep on the couch.
