Woot, I'm employed! →[More:] The very day before my temp assignment was to max out, campus finally came through and approved my backdoor contract. My department wasn't allowed to recruit for my position or hire me on an emergency basis because of a hiring freeze, so they had to create a new contractual position for me. Also, because of some really stupid circular bureaucratic bullshit, it had to be substantially different from the job I was doing, otherwise campus would have said to the department, "Why don't you just recruit for this position?" (Which they couldn't do. Because of the hiring freeze.)
But anyway, this months-long process is finally over, and I just signed a contract, and I am officially employed in a better job with a higher salary. AND, because it's a contract position, I'm exempt from the system-wide furloughs. (Which is doubly good, because my new salary bumped me up into the second furlough tier, so I would have had to take an 8% cut instead of a 4% cut, and I would have actually been making less than I was before the salary increase.)
AND I get vision insurance, so I can finally replace these glasses on my face that really aren't doing their job anymore.
So, so relieved. It's been a shitty month, and I was just waiting for this to fall through.
How's everyone else's work/life mojo going?
