Sam the Koala Has Died - Sam was the koala saved by firefighters in Australia. She had to be euthanised during surgery to fix damage caused by chlamydia when the damage was found to be inoperable.

Ahhh. I had no idea chlamydia was such a problem for koalas. Who would ever have thought they are such sluts, the way they sit in trees looking all dozy, munching provocatively on eucalyptus leaves.

Interesting that this is actually a different genus of chlamydia, which is actually its own phylum to begin with.

No! Dhartung, I want to believe that koalas are actually sluts. Slutty nasty little koalas.... Humping and making all of their unprotected sexy koala sex.

From today's paper:

"David Tree, the volunteer firefighter who was photographed giving Sam a drink of water, agreed that a vaccine needed to be found to help the animals fight the disease.

"She managed to survive the fires but died from a disease that they should be able to vaccinate her against," Mr Tree told Herald Sun newspaper in Melbourne.

"I'm sobbing like a baby and I am a grown man. She meant so much — she highlighted the plight and vulnerability of Australian wildlife around the world.''
