Manscaper? Salad dodgers? Men who should have read the instructions? Finally, a parade that I and everyone else can join! two minute ad that aired last night down under, and funny as hell
I dunno, beer ads in the US have appealed to male victimhood in this way for years. It's pretty tired.

awshucks, I thought all the words were funny. I've never heard manscapers before.

I seem to recall the only time the Australian government fell was when they tried to put a tax on beer... I could be wrong but it's so vivid in the mind...

"Male victimhood" 0_o what. Even given the metafiltarian tendency to overthink any concept to destruction, it's difficult to see how you got sense of male victimhood from that ad.

Surprisingly I haven't seen that it before, but I dig it! I like the Australian beer industry's trend towards poking fun at itself and its overblown ads. Plus there's a egalitarian attitude to it that fits very well with the brand (VB being a cheap but relatively tasty mass-produced beer that is consumed across many social groups).

eatdonuts: Sadly beer is in fact taxed here, though politicians always propose increases to it with great trepidation. However it is true that the only armed takeover of Australia was known as the Rum Rebellion for good reason.

I like when ads remind me that we aren't all winners. It's comforting to be mocked, because it means someone out there cares enough to make a joke at my expense.

If I weren't already happily married, I'd be chasing Hugh or some random, but hopefully reasonable and bright, Australian man.

Beer and smart guys are great to have around.

I don't live in Australia or drink beer and I'm not a man, but that got me laughing out loud. Thanks for posting this!
