Saturday Night at the Drive-In -- I spent most of today in my hometown where I haven't visited in almost 30 years. Surprisingly, both drive-ins are still in business. Many more pics to come.
I always drove past a drive-in on my way to Lyco. It was always closed and didn't exactly have hours that were posted anywhere. I always wanted to go, but since I don't ever get up there anymore unless it's mid-October, I don't think I'll ever see it open.
I remember seeing a Jan-Michael Vincent double feature at a drive-in in Maine during vacation in the mid-seventies, White Line Fever and Shadow of the Hawk.
I have so many childhood and teenage memories of my hometown's drive-ins (we had two). They've been defunct for years now. There's a car dealership where the most popular one used to be, which seems sad yet fitting somehow, and the other one got swallowed up by a trailer court. *sigh* Kids today are so deprived.
We used to go to the drive-in as a family when I was really little. I liked the little shorts they showed at the opening, featuring animated soda cups and popcorn bags. Beyond that I lost interest, as we were usually there for some boring grownup film. I remember we saw "Poseidon Adventure" there, among a few others. They showed two movies for one admission fee.
My favorite part was driving in, when the car would bounce up and down the little hillocks that formed the rows.
Some people near here have started a geurilla version of drive-in movies called Sub Rosa Drive-In. It's an awesome thing to do and clearly they have a lot of fun, but they mainly just show zombie and horror films, which are not to my taste so I haven't gone.
Hey I went to the drive-in (smallest one in Vermont) this Saturday with a few MeFite friends. It was raining most of the early evening and so we were sure the movies would be rained out but they said "nope, we never close" so we went over with the Chinese food we'd gotten. Luckily the weather held and, awesomely, almost everyone else stayed home so we had the place almost to ourselves. We saw Star Trek while eating Chinese food at the drive-in just a few miles form my house. No pix this time but here are some from when I went before.
