Richard Price + Martin Scorsese + Michael Jackson = "Bad" music video →[More:]Okay, no I didn't know this before. No, not the dancing part, the part that comes before, where he plays a kid named Daryl who went away to a fancy private school and comes home to hang with his homies.

Also, the dancing part takes place at the Hoyt-Schemmerhorn station in Brooklyn, which I have never actually been to, but pass through underground all the time. So weird to see turnstiles and not Metrocard booths.

It's so hard for me to reconcile the fact that he was such a great artist, but was so troubled that he may have had inappropriate relationships with children.

It's online here. Cool, I hoped it would be -- I never saw it. Interesting, but pretty lite compared to Price's usual work.

The Duxston School (that his pals call Duxbury and Doonesbury(!)) is probably a reference to the Dalton School on the UES. But he has to take Metro-North into Grand Central first, so it's upstate somewhere (at best, the Bronx). For a New Yorker, it's pretty clear that all his schoolmates got off early -- but ironically, the next station out is Harlem-125th (but maybe they got out at Riverdale)! Still a pretty dicey area back in '87, though it was the nicer end of Harlem.

I also recall that the dance sequences were actually on a soundstage reconstruction of the station's upper storey. Room for cameras, cut-away pillars, etc.

So, y'know how Moonwalker has that version of the Bad video staged with a bunch of boys? Was that the same stage that 'Weird Al' Yankovic used for the Fat video?
