Currently, I have quite the hankering for a Gin Julep. You?
A dripping rare bacon cheeseburger with fries that have Old Bay on them. (Unfortunately, I haven't progressed past chicken and noodles yet in my culinary skills. And I undercooked the last batch of chicken I made.)

A bloody mary. Several. I have spent a lot of the morning in the ruins of one of our schools, that got arsoned last night. I smell like smoke. I'll post some pics later.

My social club, The G&C Society,* has a gathering at a local pubs $3 burger tonight and I'm craving the cracked peppercorn burger with smoked mozzarella and Worcestershire aioli. Disgustingly rare, of course.

Maybe with a Columbus Brewing Company Pale Ale or a Great Lakes Dortmunder Gold.

After watching this video linked from this thread I've got a wicked hankering to ravage one of the cute geek boys.

*by "social club" I mean "a group of former coworkers who like drinking"

Just a strong afternoon coffee and maybe a cookie for me.

Right now I'm craving fries from a specific cafe in Dunedin, New Zealand, that I spent a whole lot of time in during my early 20s. Perfectly crisp with some sort of spicey stuff on them. Mayo for dipping, natch.

All I want right now is to lay on a hammock in a remote uninhabited tropical island about a mile from the beach but in riparian rainforest with a bit of light afternoon rain and perhaps a tasty caipirinha.

And endless supply of Long Trail Ale and Blackbeary Wheat. Can't link to them directly thanks to the flash interface, but here's Long Trail's site.

I found out recently they've switched Blackbeary from a summer-only to a year round, which makes being so far away from the East Coast all the more depressing. Miko, not sure if you're a beer drinker, but if so, have one for me!

Red meat. I've got a glass of wine, so I'm all set in terms of libations. The boy is in the kitchen cooking, so I expect something delicious to emerge soon. Hope it's got red meat in it.

But what I really want, what I would absolutely KILL for, is a long, sensuous soak in a deep, hot tub. I'm fighting off a cold, and am in dire need of some exfoliation and some profound heat on my tense shoulders. I'd take my glass of wine, a good book, rose oil, and a good salt scrub and disappear for a couple hours.

Oh lord, I may have to check into a hotel for a bath.

I had exactly what I wanted for dinner today - a handful of Costco Fruit & Nut Medley (the crack cocaine of trail mix), some Double Gloucester, a pear and an apple. And then some dark mint chocolate that we were given at work. It was nice, but, employers, if you're going to give me something, make it money, please.

(We all came in on Monday to find (woo!) a bar of chocolate each on our desks on top of, and cunningly hiding (boo!) a leaflet explaining how much more data and information they need about us in order to track our every movement whilst we're at work.)

I have to look up how to make a Gin Julep now, it sounds great!

I've been craving a really nicely cooked fish (maybe even something that has a nice crust on it), with garlic mashed potatoes and a glass of red wine.

Also in the mood for a long ramble - either a hike somewhere beautiful that I haven't seen yet, or a long car wander to the coast or the mountains. Wish I could today!

danf, was it the school that had dealt with arson three other times recently? That helps kids who have had to deal with a death in the family?

Technically, any drink made this way is a julep:

Muddle mint springs with 3/4 oz simple syrup
fill glass with cracked ice
add 2 1/2 oz liquor of choice
swizzle vigorously
fill mouth of glass with mint, so the drinker has to inhale through the mint to drink

Bourbon has just become the Julep of choice. Sort of the opposite of what happened to the martini. Gin just seemed so crisp and refreshing today.

Mmmmm so doing this. We have a mint plant we need to aggressive drink through to keep under control, so I think this will be my after dinner cocktail with gin, thank you so much for the recipe!
