Swans's End: bathroom before and after So I finally got around to getting a scanner and getting some pictures online. This set is of my bathroom, before and after I did it over. I have other rooms in my house finished or close to finished, but no "after" photos for them yet. But all in good time...
I like the old crapper better.

Just kidding. Great job!

Looks good! The under-sink curtain for storage is especially clever.
I just ran into the toothbrush holder problem myself, but decided it could balance precariously on the edge of the sink for now.

Lovely!

You used tile paint instead of redoing the tiles? Was it easy to use? What's the finish like? Would you recommend it?

*thoughtfully eyes her hideous beige bathroom*

I know the "new" bathroom is nothing spectacular, but for awhile there after I finished it it was such an improvement over the old look that I felt like I had a spa.

ninazer, I used two coats of a special kind of primer to cover the tiles (it may have been Bull's Eye 1-2-3, but just ask for a primer for ceramic tile at your paint store and they'll know what kind to recommend), and then painted with a tinted kitchen and bathroom latex over that. The finish is quite smooth. I actually like the look better than unpainted tiles. It won't last forever, but it's been two years since I did it and it still looks pretty much like it did the day I finished it.

If your tiles are in good shape, I definitely recommend it. It's much less waste, expense and work than replacing the tiles. You can pick any colour you want instead of being limited to whatever tiles you can find. As a bonus, you don't have to worry about your grout getting discoloured, because it's painted over.

Wonderfully done!

So very much brighter and cleaner looking. (not saying that you don't keep a clean house, but the before was one of those colors that 'always' looks dingy to me...)

I especially like the shade of green in the accents. What about the floor? I couldn't tell in the pics if you redid the floor too.

The bathroom was mostly white before, but you're right, it looked dingy because was an old, beat-up paint job and because of the general lack of light.

I didn't redo the floor. It's a green speckled/streaked tile. It's not what I would have chosen, but it was in decent shape so I just worked with it.

I am jealous of your detachable shower head. Probably better that I don't have one because showers always take ten more minutes if I have access to one. Ahem.

If you want one, Juliet, they are not that expensive and really, really easy to install. You just screw it on. If I were ever to rent again, I'd put one in my rental and just put the old one back in place when it was time to move out. Besides the obvious benefits of them, they are also so nice for cleaning.

Lovely update! More pictures!

We have tile in the kitchen that I think we'll end up painting over. Glad to know it's a fairly simple job!

PS to ninzer0: my whole house is beige. Tile, carpeting, vinyl, appliances, bathroom fixtures; the wood trim is the same as the wall colour! We need to win the lottery; even a small one would be nice. *sigh*
