After a BBQ I had about a month ago, I froze hot dogs and rolls. A) Can one safely freeze hot dogs and then thaw and cook them; and B) Are the rolls going to taste gross and freezer-y after they thaw?
The rolls should be ok if you toast and butter them.

I do this all the time; they taste fine.

The hot dogs are no problem. I grew up on frozen hot dogs. (Which may scare you away, but really, I'm fine.)

The rolls will be fine too. They haven't been in the freezer long enough to get freezer burned, most likely. But, it's all about how you prepare them.

I find that if you let them thaw at room temp, they'll dry out. Also, don't defrost in the microwave. Best thing to do, IMO, is wrap them tightly in foil, then put them in a 250-300 oven for about 20 minutes, until heated through. They won't dry out that way.

I freeze bread often, because I almost never get through a full loaf before it gets stale. Another trick is to make sure it's sliced before it goes into the freezer. (For sandwich rolls and such, make sure they're sliced in half.) This makes the reheating process go much more smoothly.

Thanks mudpuppie, I will follow your advice!

When preparing hot dogs at home, it has almost always been exclusively with frozen hot dogs and rolls. They'll be fine.

They're hot dogs. How much worse can they get?
Being serious, I second mudpuppie's advice to cook the rolls in the oven. You can thaw them first, then just pop them on a baking sheet for 5-10 mins in a hot oven. They come out nice and crusty - and fresh-tasting.
FYI: one way to make stale bread edible is to wet the loaf or roll slightly (just dampen - I whiz them through a trickling water-tap) and bake in a hot oven. I have avoided throwing out a lot of bread that way.

I don't eat that many hot dogs so I usually keep the rolls in the freezer. They come out fine. I always toast them, but only because I like toasted rolls.

We do the same thing (frozen dogs and buns). We always toast the buns (even fresh ones) because that makes the whole thing taste that much better.
