HEY PICKSBURG! Yinz are stealing our slogan!→[More:] Ah well, we weren't using it anyway (and I'm not an Oilers fan). Congrats to the Pens fans, and condolences to the Wings' faithful (of which my brother-in-law is one). Now if my Habs could only get their act together...

They called Pittsburgh the City of Champions in the 70s too, when the Steelers were winning Super Bowls and I think the Pirates did well too.

Pirates won the Series in '71 and '79 plus numerous division titles during the decade. Pens were total crap, though.

But yeah - not exactly an original concept. Google "City of Champions" and exclude both Eddytown and the 'Burgh and you start to wonder how many municipalities haven't used it yet.

Man, we're so full of ourselves here in the 'burgh right now that we're about to explode. The Superbowl, the Stanley Cup, The G20, Netroots Nation and the fact that we've been relatively untouched by the recession are going to make us all pretty insufferably smug for a while. You could point out that the Pirates are in the running for being the losingist team in North American professional sports history or that our infrastructure is literally collapsing or that our local government so bankrupt and corrupt that the state had to partially take it over.
