If the surgery is planned ahead of time, there's no reason why his opposition to blood transfusions should be a deal-breaker. I have two friends who are JWs and I know that there have been great strides in the medical field in recent years to eliminate the need for blood transfusions in non-emergency situations. They even have access to medical experts who offer consultation to JWs, working in conjunction with their personal doctors, to facilitate safe and effective alternatives.

Yeah, the whole opposition to blood transfusions is wacky, but there are alternatives for people who don't want them.

Yes, the admonition to abstain from blood transfusions is technically for all transfusions, but if I recall correctly, the question of banking one's own blood ahead of time has been deemed "a matter of personal conscience" (meaning, each JW can decide for themselves whether it's acceptable as an alternative).

Keep in mind that Prince takes this shit seriously enough that he hectors audiences at his concerts not to accept blood transfusions.
