Photos of lunch with The Whelk [More:]First, we snuck into the Conde Nast building and got some "I (heart) Glamour" ballons. We couldn't figure out how to pay for food there, so we left and went to- White Castle! The Whelk told us about his life as a cartoonist. I decided I should be a cartoonist- my cartoon. The Whelk drew one, too. It's clear that one of us is quite good- and him, well, I guess he can find something else to do for a living.
They had some serious spy shit to keep the rabble out of that cafeteria. Like cards and ...stuff. Once we realized there was no way we could pay without doing some ninja-moves we abandoned our poor salads, ran for the exits and ate tiny burgers.

Clearly a valuable use of an afternoon.

Clearly. Clearly also:

1. A dazzling display of textures and patterns in purple and green.

2. And bright yellow roundiness.

3. And pale yellow foodiness.

4. And two-dimensional cartoonalia.

Awwww .. I want to hang out with famous cartoonists, skulk through corporate cafeterias and dine elegantly on tiny square burgers. Looks like a good time.

The Whelk is a famous cartoonist? No wonder he's so damn funny. And to think, we get it for free!

I gave my balloon to a preteen to said it was her birthday!

I mainly wanted to go to White Castle for the pulled pork- and it wasn't bad! It was almost sorta good!

cause she said it was her birthday! I mean. I was odd. I was walking down the street and this little voice said "Can I have your balloon? And it was this pre-teen girl in a belly shirt and I gave it to her and her girlfriends said "Oh and it's her birthday!: and tittered and I felt like I was in some charming European movie or some shit.

I shoulda got the pulled pork sammiches. I erred on the side of chicken.

I Haven't hit the Castle in a while, and I should since my parents' first date was at the one on Queens Boulevard.

When I was a little kid, we lived in an underdeveloped part of San Antonio, there we used the word "horking" to mean "vomiting".

I like the pulled pork sandwiches, but do not think they're quite the value that I associate with White Castle sammiches.
