83 Years of Man and Machine [More:] will ride to work tomorrow when I ride the Schwinn Varsity I pulled out of the city dump last month into the office.

It won't be the highest value of my age plus bike age I've ridden to work, but the Varsity is so crude and primal when compared to my slightly older Raleigh 3-speed roadster.

I've got my Wald wire baskets mounted on the back; I'm ready to go.
That is neat. What a good dump find - I fantasize about finding me an old old bike. What kind of work did you have to do on it?

Where I work, someone donated a 1940s Western Flyer to our programs. It was pretty beat, but I brought it to our local bikeshop and it's down there now, getting a free tuneup! We're going to put a bell on it and use it in our Victory Garden programs this summer. Fun fun.

Replaced the tires (with other old tires I had laying around that were in better shape), repacked the wheel bearings, adjusted things, and shined up some of the chrome. The handlebar tape is original as far as I can tell.

That bike looks good for being pulled out of a dump! It's so pretty.
