Two-Point Tuesday Status Update, Please!→[More:]1. I'm having Au Gratin potatoes for lunch. Mmmmmm.
2. Babysitting tonight and then church council meeting.
1. Work has been really, ridiculously slow today. Hurray for end of term though. But still, *so bored*. I do get to present my bitchin' database tomorrow, which will be much fun.
2. I go on vacation next week. I hope that when I return, all the plumbing repairs in my house will be finished and my shiny new washer and dryer will be installed and working. I'm tired of having to manually turn the water on and off every time I come/go/sleep.
1. I jogged and walked this morning. Then I rode my bike to the school. I felt pretty good about that because I ate McDonalds and Chick-fil-A yesterday and am trying to be more righteous today.
2. Other than volunteering and exercising I am being very lazy. I have loads of household chores that are screaming my name.
1. My office break room smells like a very odd combination of microwaved popcorn and spoiled milk.
2. I heard rumors that the South Beach frozen pizzas are being discontinued. (They're still on the Kraft website, at the moment.) NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!
1 - Went to the New Yorker to drop off pointless, pointless cartoon submissions. Bought more tobacco. Bought some plants and containers, futzed with them on the windowsill, then played Plants vs. Zombies (how, how do you defeat the final boss?)
2- Dealt with not one but two missing checks. In both cases they were sent to the wrong address. I think my mailman is illiterate.
1. Spent today cleaning out closets and recycling a bunch of old electronics that had piled up over the years. I now actually have closet shelves with nothing on them! I'm sure it'll be fleeting, but it's nice while it lasts.
2. While doing said cleaning, I found a box of comic books from the late 1980s - mid 1990s that I thought had either gone missing, been stolen, lost in a move, etc. Fuckin' W00T!!! I am so glad to see some of these! And others I don't even remember owning!! I am so excited! Hence the exclamation points!!
1. The sale of my mom's house fell through, again. The account that my sister setup to pay the mortgage is running out and there are no new buyers on the horizon. Mom moved into managed care over a year ago now and the house is really starting to fall apart which isn't helping sell it. My wife and I probably going to have to pick up her mortgage payments for a while until we can figure something out. Good thing that we just paid off the car.
2. I started working with Wordpress for the first time yesterday. It's a pretty nice package, I'm probably going to use it for re-creating our neighborhood's website in the next few weeks. Right now the site is just a bunch of static pages that don't really do much useful.
1) Watching my kid watch Sesame Street. His favorite part is the show open, with all the kids and characters dancing around the city. In a little bit we're going to the park. One of the other moms from the neighborhood will be there. I really don't like her as she's always making dumb comments about my son who has some medical difficulties. But it's a beautiful day and we'll just pretend she's a big dead tree.
2) My Mah Jongg group is coming over tonight. I love playing. My parents think it's hysterical that I play. But my youngest hippest friend is the one who taught me and who invited me into her regular group. We'll have popcorn, Crystal Light, chocolate raisins and Swedish fish. We play for money and sometimes I win a dollar or two.
1. I slept for about 12 hours last night and I'm still tired.
2. I think I may have found the new apartment I'm looking for. I'm trying to move up to San Francisco from San Jose, but I want to live near Caltrain so I can commute on the train and there's the rub, you're either looking in SOMA or Portero Hill. Craigslist is useful but the high signal to noise ratio means you end up filtering thru a lot of scam ads.
1. Mowed the lawn. My first mown lawn of the year.
2. Made a video of the kids singing Happy Birthday for my Mom's birthday. Put the AVI file on a CD, but I'm not sure if it will play well for her. It wouldn't play smoothly from the CD for me.
1. Going to an Indian vegetarian cooking class tonight and I am really excited!
2. Day 2 of Headache That Will Not Leave. I want to smash everything I see against my skull to see if that will help.
1. I'm actually starting to get a lot of emails and inquiries on Etsy, and a couple orders.
2. Got tickets to see Star Trek thursday on the Imax. It's being done in ACTUAL Imax, not just "normal film on the bigger screen," so I'm psyched. Now to avoid spoilers until then. I hate having to arrange stuff around a billion hectic schedules when my schedule is a perpetual blank slate.
1. Making public comments about other peoples' medical problems, particularly when they are little children, is fucking pig-ignorant and contemptible behavior.
2. Filling out an application tonight for a federal job as an archivist. Wish me luck!
3. Gotta find some way to reward myself after completing the application. Ice cream, maybe?
1. Worst allergy season ever.
2. Called up insurance company, spoke to advice nurse, scored a prescription for Flonase without even having to go to the doc. Going to pick it up this evening, if all goes well! So very exciting.
1. Did a workshop in an unnamed municipality and got heckled for the first time. In a spot in the evaluation form on how you would describe the workshop, one person wrote "Orwell, 1984."
2. Tonight I get to pick up a prison inmate and take him out for a couple hours as part of a volunteer program I'm in. I'm looking forward to that.
1. Found a BIG ASS SNAKE on the front porch, that was really cool. Actually, it was my sister who happened across it, as it was sitting in the deck chair she normally inhabits to smoke her afternoon cigarette. I heard her scream uncontrollably and went running to aid her, assuming the worst.
She said she felt a mix of emotions. First was surprise, upon nearly sitting down on a snake. Then she experienced an intense anger, assuming that her nephew (my son) had placed a fake rubber snake on the chair as a gag to freak her out. Then utter fear as the rubber snake moved, and damn! wouldn't you know, he's a big mother, too! We took all sorts of pictures and videos. It's the biggest snake I have seen 'in the wild', which I find particularly surprising, given the amount of time I have spent trekking through rainforests in third world countries. They were probably hanging too far up in the trees or swimming too deep in the rivers for me to see.
2. American Idol tonight with my Idol obsessed fan. Getting as far as we are in the season, champagne will be in play.
On preview: Poor Stewriffic! I hope you feel better soon. That goes for all my allergy-laden bunnies.
1. Last night of vacation/family time. I've been in the Florida Panhandle since Friday (here, since Saturday), and while I'm sad it's coming to an end, I can't wait to go pick up my dog tomorrow evening. This is the longest I've been separated from her since I adopted her nearly three and a half years ago. I'm not miserable, but damn, I'm looking forward to seeing her again.
2. Every time I come here (about once a year, as my sister lives in Panama City) I thank the powers that be that the little bit of Cherokee I have buried in my DNA somewhere overpowers the pasty-WASPy majority so I don't burn. I brown nicely, and man, that's a life-saver.
1. Will be at the office late to handle a co-op package that should have been sent first thing this afternoon and do other stuff my boss can't handle by herself. So glad that my friend who's in town canceled on me for tonight and that we're going to see Star Trek tomorrow.
2. I miss buying food in packages that has more than 30% sodium content in it.
1. I was pounced on by a frisky, affectionate blonde on the front lawn of the campus and we had a lovely tumble around in the grass and sunshine.
2. If you divide the number of homeworks I have to grade by the amount of enthusiasm I currently have for grading homeworks, you get a distressingly big number.
1. Had my stepson come over and mow/weedwack for me. I don't mind doing it, but it makes him feel useful. Then I finally mulched my gardens, and everything looks nice!
2. My hummingbirds are back!! They arrived on Saturday, and made sure to stop and hover in front of me so I knew they had come back. So I hurried and made their sugarwater, and it took them less than half an hour to find my feeders. Bonus: I've seen more this year at this time than in years past.
1. Had a tension headache of some unknown origin, and Cat is still recovering from bladder stones, so we spent my day off taking care of each other and cuddling. I would feel much better if I knew he were out of the woods. And I don't think crying every day helps with headaches much, either.
2. We are both sitting down to our respective medicines: prescription canned food mixed with antibiotics and muscle relaxants and pain meds for him, butter chicken for me. We are about to watch Julius Caesar, which will probably be awful, but which I couldn't pass up because it has Christopher Walken as Cato.
1. I can't bring myself to write personal stuff online. Either because it's too personal or because I don't think it's that interesting to people who don't know me.
2. Calling people 'bunnies' is not my thing.
After coming here regularly for about half a year I've come to the conclusion that Metachat is not for me. You're all very nice and interesting people and hopefully I'll see you at metafilter. For instance at the 10th anniversary metafilter meetup in Berlin!
1. I agree with jouke: calling people "bunnies" isn't my thing. Not so much into OMG cute either. But that's okay. I still really like it here.
2. Back from hilarious family weekend prompted by, but not organized around, my cousin's graduation. Visited two new states: Georgia and SC. Also spent some time in NC, but I'd been there before. My relatives are the world's best road trip partners.
1. Yeah, I don't know if I've ever called people 'bunnies.' I probably use 'Mechazens' more than anything else, though 'Metachatters' is not without its charms. On the other end of it, 'bunny' isn't the worst thing I've ever been called, y'know?
2. I think I've decided on my next tattoo: a lobster.
