If you are going to work on somebodys election:

1) it takes FUCKING YEARS
2) Invest in a good printer
3) Invest in a good, technical husband. Like that one, over there, sitting next to the stripey people. He is good at troubleshooting mail merges and printer bullahit.
4) you will be working all the fuck time
5) The newspapers will crawl up your ass.
6) It's one of those mount everest things. there is no money or glory in it for anybody.
7) I am up at a million o clock logging voter contacts.

I read that as "electrons are a hell of a lot of work" which...really changed my understanding of your point. Now that I read it CORRECTLY, it does make more sense.
