Robots taking over rock and roll. (You Tube/Guitar Hero)Came across this and thought it was pretty cool. For all you automation geeks out there.
It even uses the whammy bar! Heh. That's cool.

I have a friend who used to build controller systems for a living. I have to show him this.

:(

My friends and I totally had that idea. Of course, our implementation would be much cruder than this one.

Thanks for the link!

I can play the song on a real guitar, so neener neener.

Yeah, but can you get over 99% of the notes on guitar hero?

I bet you can't on that "real" guitar.

Oh, and talk about missing the point...

"can you get over 99% of the notes on guitar hero?"

Actually, when I played Guitar Hero, I tried to play the guitar fills that are in the actual songs but did not get rerecorded for the game. That was my biggest problem with the game, I know the original songs far too well that I had to relearn the dumbed-down game version. "Hey, where's that bit of feedback from the unmuted B string?" Another niggling problem is because I have two fingers amputated from my left hand, I play left-handed guitars, and the game controllers are not really compatible.

Plus, I do not own either a game system nor even a television.

Oh, the point! Yes, how quaint. Reminds me of my software engineering project during my junior year at Georgia Tech. ;-P

Gee, Ardiril, you were a studboy software dude during your junior year. Imagine being able to program stuff that was only imaginary back then. You had color cameras and you wrote software that could recognize it. WOW!

Oh yes, the point is someone did it, it's really cool automation. You programmed this stuff during your junior year? Seriously, you're awesome. Of course you have youtube footage of your junior project. Oh wait, they didn't have youtube then? or guitar hero? So of course, you're full of shit. But, hey, you're a studboy guitarist. Oh wait? You're not famous for being a guitarist? Oh yeah, all those other guys that were there before you stomped all over you while you studied hard for your engineering degree. So here you are claiming your fame in a lowbrow website....

Oh, the point! Yes how quaint. How about you go fuck yourself? Of course you fucked yourself during your junior year at Georgia Tech, and they made a movie about it. No one had fucked themself before that, and you were the first. Before fucking one's self was even a figment of anyone's imagination. Imagine being at the forefront of all that. I can only imagine...

A simpler solution would be an array of photosensors with appropriate color filters pointed at the TV and hooked directly to the digital controller. No need for the laptop and underlying software to analyze the video signal.

Come to think of it, player piano technology is well over a century old, required no electronics whatsoever, and played a real musical instrument as opposed to a toy.

Say, have you seen the Gibson Les Paul that tunes itself?

Wow, eekacat, that's a neat post.

Wow, eekacat, you're being a major dick.

"a lowbrow website"

So you post to the lowbrow sites to uplift the unwashed?

I was surprised that mr. gaspode, who is an excellent guitarist, was also pretty good at Guitar Hero (eventually). I thought he would have the problem that you were talking about, Ardiril.

I improved 100% when I stopped listening to the song altogether and just concentrated and the color bands. The last time I played Rock Band at my niece's, I had them turn the volume down altogether and I wiped the floor.

Now there's a TV involved, but people are essentially playing Simon.

Now, I'd love to see a robot playing Simon. Put a nameplate on it and call it art.

I think playing Guitar Hero is fun and in no way is it the same thing as playing real guitar. Just like playing Resident Evil is in no way the same thing as surviving a zombie apocalypse, or singing Karaoke is not the same thing as opening at the Met...
