Oh, I saw this in college, like maybe 30+ years ago. Don't remember much about it except that I thought the wind thing was overdone a bit, or maybe more than a bit. I'll have to give it another try. Thanks!

The wind is definitely a presence in the film, but there were some great smoldering scenes between Lillian Gish and Lars Hanson.

I remember reading that Gish said the filming was one of the worst experiences of her life. I can imagine getting blown around by giant fans in oppressive heat would be pretty unpleasant. I want to say there was a story about her permanently scarring her hand on a hot trailer handle . . .

I just finished "The Dam Busters," which was a pretty good flick, great flying scenes, but it's distractingly marred by an unfortunate choice in, of all things, the dog's name.

I have "Menschen am Sonntag" to watch later. A little early Billy Wilder.

Heh, Hugh, I remember that dog in The Dam Busters. Poor N--.

That was a good movie.

"Nigger" was the name of the real dog mascot of the real dam busters unit. Alas. It was also one of the success codewords (because of the dog).

Now, names like Letty, Wirt, and "Sourdough" ... you don't hear them much anymore.
