I sleepy. I am elated that I will not be working tomorrow, no matter who calls me at the last minute and asks me to! Unless it's Chris Isaak or Clive Owen or Robbie Williams.
Learned a state senator who met with my group of teenagers about a month ago died yesterday. He was a civil-rights leader and educator, and the news rather floored me. He wasn't young, but he was in good health as far as anyone knew, and it was sudden. Sad.
Going out here shortly to look at more houses. Cross your fingers that I finally find one.
I'm in Guatemala!! Where the wireless is miraculously working. Drinking coffee, waking up. (I have my laptop because, well, I'm an addict, but also I went to New Hampshire to see my family for a week before flying here with my sister Rebecca. But I'm not defensive about it :)
There's a little kitten Mateo who is playing with me, cute. And a very loud fire-cracker-y parade is going past outside. My sister will meet me soon and we will continue with my vacation. (Actually, she's not on vacation, she does work down here, but she's showing me the sights.)
Gardening this weekend. It's hard to believe how much work < 500 square feet of lawn/garden can take up. The back yard plot is only 12x12 but I've probably put 25 hours of work into it in the last year and I still haven't planted anything yet. When we moved in it was surrounded by a chain link fence that I had to take down. That seemed like an easy task until I realized that the posts were set in three feet of concrete. Then the ground was totally cris-crossed with ivy and wild grape vines that took hours and hours to pull up. And then when I started trying to turn over the top-soil, I found cinder blocks and bricks buried there. I've pulled up half a dozen blocks and close to fifty bricks along with some car parts, two windows worth of broken glass and assorted non-degradable garbage. It's finally ready to be planted with grass today which is good because it's supposed to rain this afternoon.
Eventually, we'll pull the grass up and build a brick patio on that space (maybe using some of the bricks that I dug up) but I don't have time for that this year and the grass will at least keep the mud down and be easy to maintain.
I had a Mecha dream last night. Me, Specklet, LT and Miko, all hanging out at Specklet's house, defending it against wild fires. There was also a cute little dog named Miko there, too.
