This is beautiful. It's autumn here - and the leaves are falling. Though we have lots of evergreen trees, so the difference between winter and summer isn't too bad. It's beginning to get cool, and I've had to resort to using a hot wheat bag at nights. We've had lots of rain, which has been beautiful, but we are in desperate need of a lot more rain very soon.
Speaking of which, when is a good time to see the blossoms at the BBG this year? Are they over already or can I sneak in a viewing on a sunny weekday sometime soon?
In my college quad there was a small grove of cherry trees; each rootstock had apparently been grafted with several different scion varieties. As a result, different branches would bloom several days apart, and the effect was like a slow-motion fireworks display that took a month to play out. It was quite beautiful.
Gorgeous! It's interesting that the blooms seem to appear on the bottom branches first. I would have thought the top ones would bloom first but I'm not sure why I thought that (getting more sun, maybe?).
