Dear New York Times: We know you're maybe a little obsessed with us, but please stop stalking us. Love, Portland, OR
The NY Times, like any dying business, is resorting to desperate measures for relevancy. Check out this item here, the one about the Boston Globe (which the Times owns).

The NYC housing market is driving their actual readership to cities such as Portland. So, yeah. That makes sense.

In related news, the Times announced yesterday that they're imposing a five percent pay cut on their employees this year.

Aint that fucked up? You work for the Paper of Record, your byline appears everywhere. Bloggers link to your stuff all over the Internet. You're at the top of the journalism game. And -- holy shit, what happened to my paycheck?

Maybe if they stopped pissing on half their potential customers they wouldn't be in such sad shape? Just sayin'.

How do you mean?

I don't know, I've been reading the Times for nigh on 30 years now, and they've always had far-flung stories. That's one of the things I love about the paper - a magazinelike approach.

NYT used to have a crush on Austin. Then we lost that certain something and they moved on to Portland.

dersins what do you mean? The Times has a Pacific Northwest bureau based in Portland, IIRC.
