OK... Three Stooges movie... WTF? I would have loved to see a sincere biopic about the men. Their lives provided plenty of material for a dramatist to work with.

But actually casting new "Stooges"? Are they out of their goddamned minds? We don't even need to consider the question of whether Penn and Del Toro will reveal heretofore hidden gifts in comedy. Recasting iconic comedy roles is virtually impossible. Just look at the Steve Martin Pink Panther movies to see how ghastly the results can be.

Penn can actually do comedy (Jeff Spicoli, anyone?), but this is just a bad idea. Next, they'll want to do a Abbott and Costello remake, but they'll feel compelled to hunt down two guys actually named Abbott & Costello.

Yeah, I remembered Spicoli after I posted. But that was a quarter century and a lot of self importance ago. Even if we let him take Shanghai Surprise as a spousal write-off, there's still We're No Angels to his demerit.

One telling of this several years ago had Russell Crowe as Moe. That would be better, imo.

No kidding. They'll have Curly accidentally squirting something valuable up his ass and Larry having to felch him to save the day. Honest to God, I don't know why people like their movies.

As much as I would love to see Sean Penn and Jim Carrey do a comedy together, this ain't it. The only way I could see this possibly working is if the actors throw out the script and ad lib the whole damn thing.

I never liked the 3 stooges, although I can appreciate the effort, moviewise. And I liked the SM Pink Panther movies! Tomato Tomahto.
