"So, son, how was your day?" I asked. [More:] "Well Dad, I did well on my math test. The Spanish test was easy. We got our rough drafts back in English and the teacher liked mine. Oh, and.... I got accepted into Baylor."

He just kinda sneaked that in. W00t! So far he's two-for-three on college acceptances, waiting for the third one. This is a "provisional" acceptance though, contingent on several conditions (even though his grades in school are good, his standardized test scores not so much). He has to go for early student counseling, has to earn six credits over the summer, etc.

But still, I'm amazed at what this kid who started out in full-time special ed is accomplishing.
Wow. That's pretty great, doohickie. Congrats to you and your son.

Baylor's a good school. Buddy of mine got his MFA there. Beautiful campus. And it didn't seem to have the same police state environment I've seen at a lot of other Christian universities. I think he'll love it.

It's had the "police state" thing going in the past, but I think the pendulum has swung the other way lately. Waco is a terrible town so hopefully there won't be too many off-campus distractions if he goes there.

We've been there several times; both our sons did music camps there.

Actually, all three of the private schools he applied to are Christian- Texas Wesleyan (Methodist), Baylor (Baptist), and Schreiner (Presbyteriain). At this point Schreiner is the only one we're waiting to hear from, and that's because they require applicants to take the essay part of either the ACT or SAT, which my son does this Saturday.

Sunday he leaves on a service trip down to the camp where he's attended summer church camp several times over the years... which happens to be twenty miles from Schreiner.

Oh god, Waco. Poor kiddo.

Schreiner is in Kerrville- Texas Hill Country and just beautiful as all get-out. I'm hoping he picks Schreiner just to give me an excuse to drive down there frequently.

Hey, congrats Doohickster. Baylor's a good school. I can't say I absolutely loved my time there, but I didn't hate it either. It's a beautiful campus (and they've built quite a bit since I graduated) and a far more international school than I expected it to be.

Waco's not that bad, and being right in between Austin and the Metroplex is nice. Feel free to e-mail me if you have any questions or anything. I'm sure some has changed in the past 8 years, but I may be able to fill in some blanks for you.
