Question. How is the Furminator different from any other dog rake? I looked at the site but it's no help.

I have no idea, except that everyone is raving about it... and I haven't even found a regular dog rake here. I have a comb and brush, and a de-matter, but I haven't seen anything like this. Sky sheds so much. She's like a nuclear dust bunny machine... she's like ground zero for this kind of thing, the ne plus ultra of sheddingness.

I have a very similar thing for my cats called the Shed Ender Pro, which I bought in Bed, Bath & Beyond. It's meant to be the be-all and end-all of cat (and dog) grooming. I found it to be ok on the cats, but they prefer their Zoom Groom or their rake brush.

Email me your address, taz, and I'll put the Shed Ender in the mail to you. I won't use it again.

I'm cool doing this too. I have amazon prime plus, there's a post office in the same building as my work. (though I'll probably ask the lad in the office to send it. Abuse of power and all)

We definitely need more technology than we have. Her coat is pretty much full length right now, very long, and curly, and a combo of coarse and super-super fine, and to comb her out takes about two hours, seriously. I find a movie on TV, put a sheet on the floor, get a cushion to sit on, and start combing. And combing. And combing.

I get about five double handfuls of hair (I could make cushions... or mattresses!) out, and after that, if she brushes up against your leg? You'll still end up with hair all over your pants. It's not always quite this bad, because I guess this is spring shedding, but she always needs extra attention for the coat. When we got her, she was so matted up she had to be nearly shaved. She really needs to be combed every day, or kept very clipped (not as cute!).

I have the furminator, and it is indeed awesome. Works better than any dog rake I've ever used. You'll love it taz.

I wanted to take some in the park today, but the weather is not cooperating.

By the way, the apricot colored part of her coat, aside from her ears? We're not even sure that's her actual color. When we got her, she had one small apricot patch between the shoulder blades. When we had her groomed - pretty much buzz-cut, she was all white, except for the bottom part of her ears. Then we applied Spot-On (for fleas, ticks, etc.) and the apricot color came back in that one spot, between the shoulder blades, where it was applied. Then the next time, we used Advantix instead, and it gets applied in a line all the way down the back. It turned that line pretty dark brown which faded little by little, and seemed to spread out. At this point we don't really know if that apricot back is a "dye job" from the Advantix or her natural coloring. Apparently, these areas can develop as the dog matures. I guess we'll know when we get her groomed for summer, with a short hairdo.

Also, we aren't using that Spot On or Advantix stuff any more... we have to use a Scalibor collar because it protects against mosquitoes and sand flies which are a big threat here where leishmaniasis is spread by mosquitoes, and the collar also works for fleas and ticks... so even though the Vet thinks we need to use both, I decided not to. One possibly toxic pesticide is enough, I think. I'd use nothing but natural methods if it weren't for the leishmaniasis threat. (Some of you might remember that when we got her, she tested borderline for leishmaniasis, but our last test was totally clean.)

I've read that blue eyes have been mostly bred out of most dog breeds, because they make people feel nervous... and I have to admit that I do understand where that is coming from, as much as I think it's cruel and stupid. She's a bit like a "Village of the Damned" creature, with her unnerving, diabolical pale blue eyes that seem to see all your sins, your true, ugly and shriveled soul. But I can live with that!

;-) it's true that her eyes are kind of startling, for a dog, but I've had cats before, so I'm used to being shredded by a gaze.
