LoriFLA, and other Florida folks: Did you guys hear that Kepler launch tonight? NASA has just launched the Kepler probe (at 10:48 p.m. Eastern Time). I just wondered if you guys watched the launch or could hear it from your homes.
A guy I know in Orlando said it was easily visible. I don't remember where Lori lives.

It's visible from a lot more places than it's audible!

I think folks in Florida are a little more jaded about things going up in the sky. "Oh, another rocket. Hmm, I wonder if it's going to rain for 10 minutes around 8 o'clock or 20 minutes around 9 o'clock."

Thanks!

I can see that. It would be similar to the way I view planes coming in to LaGuardia.

Damn shame, though. This Kepler could be the beginning of something truly mind-blowing and revolutionary. It's not as sexy as manned flight, to be sure, but . . . I think we're in for some fun surprises over the next five years.

Eh, I guess it's pretty interesting to learn about the structure and formation of other planetary systems, but I'd prefer if they were studying something more fundamental. Maybe it's because I don't really care about extraterrestrial life.

Well damn. I was in Orlando last night, at the Enzian theater in Maitland, FL. I could have watched it but was in a movie. Shoot!

I am never jaded about things going up in the sky. I love it. I try to watch every launch. The shuttle launches are always visible from where I live (Daytona Beach) and the rocket probably was as well.

I forgot to mention that we can never hear the launches. We only hear sonic booms. I can't even hear it when we watch it "up close" in Titusville.

Movies? Yeah, I remember those. You must have a life or something ;)

Neat! It's so cool that you can actually see those rockets rising into the sky.

Interesting. It's just that the explosion -- and a rocket launch is pretty much a controlled explosion -- looks as if it would be brutally loud. But it isn't.

Thanks, Lori!
