Free gadget idea So, you and the dog are on a walk and here you have a real estate sign. For Sale! The house you want in the spot you want it. But how much does it cost and what do the innards look like?[More:]

So you have a solar panel attached to the sign and to the kind of small radio thing that does local wifi on Nintendo DSes and the like. This squirts a PDF to your mobile phone. All this within the sign, or indoors nearby.

This will work already in Blackberry and iPhone laden areas and will, I promise you, get sales.
on second thought I wonder if one's cell phone will take up this sort of thing.

If you had an RFID reader on a cell phone a passive on the sign could give you a URL I suppose.

We need to sort out this whole geotagging the world thing, it's on the presingularity to do list.

A lot of apartments will have a code to SMS. If you have that send a URL for the house for sale with the deets you can read on the phone or your computer you're golden.

Having a solar powered wifi or something sounds expensive. An alternative might be a bug on the for sale sign with the SSID or whatever and have the little box inside the house -- so those punk kids won't steal it and can be cheaper -- transmitting the power.

Realtors for the most part are pretty low tech which is why the fliers in the tube on the for sale sign might be the standard for years to come.

I can do that now using Verizon's Navigator. The GPS determines where you are and then looks up the address in a realtor's database.

I've seen signs that tell you to tune to a radio channel for information.

You could just use those square barcode things to do the same. Cheaper too.

By the Grace of God, if you like the house, and the price is good: then just get it. Don't worry about all this computer stuff... you can always get one of us to do this for you, or at least give you helpful hints. And by one of us, I mean the computer wizards that we have over here: I my self depend on one of my sisters friends to help me with my computer, and they're always glad to do it. But I have to keep the food ready for them, which is the only hurdle, but one that I'm glad to jump. I have my mom with me for help for that.
