Some more cool info about this fish is on Pharyngula today. I think it looks kind of mechanical... robot fish of the deep!

I got the same vibe, BP. Think Robbie the Robot from Forbidden Planet.

I love this little guy! I love how marvelously aquatic creatures adapt to their watery environs.

Beautiful fish.

That's the kind of fish that makes scuba divers panic and die from the bends as they speed to the surface, screaming silently behind their masks.

Cool adaptation. I definitely see the Robby comparison, too. From the comment in BP's comment with witch I heartily agree:

"...how come we humans don't get to have a well-protected swiveling optical system inside a protective transparent cranium? Why do fish get all the cool stuff?" -emphasis added

that was supposed to say "a comment from BP's link"

Yuck! I hate it!
What would happen if you cross this fish with that other silvery aquarium fish that has the see-through belly? Would you get a whole see-through fish? That would be even grosser!

Internal organs are supposed to be hidden, imo.

I also didn't like the late 80s trend of see-through phones where you see all the wiring. Preserve some mystery!

I think this fish is wonderful, wonderful I say! It's amazing to me that skin can be transparent.

I'd love to see a gigantic school of these guys swimming in a circle - what an array of light!

Not to me. I'm so bloody pale that you can see every vein in my chest.

I have some ghost shrimp in my aquarium that are near completely transparent: when they eat, you can see their little stomachs undulating.

It's gross:cool.
