So. Whedon's Dollhouse. What are we thinking so far?
I'm thinking "I can't wait for this to come to the UK" :-)

Don't have TV, otherwise I'd try it. Is it online anywhere?
I never really liked Faith much on Buffy. I fear that might influence my opinion.

It's ok, not great. Like DarkForest, I never really cared for the whole Faith thing on buffy, though I have to admit she's a versatile actress, which you'd need given the premise of Dollhouse.

I found the dialogue lacking some of the sparkle I'm used to from Whedon productions. Perhaps he's trying to get away from being seen as "jokey", but I miss it.

I'm not really buying the concept. It seems very hand-wavy and forced. We supposed to believe that this same woman can have a season's worth of adventures every year but no one notices her? She dresses up differently but she still looks like Eliza Dushku. Is she never going to run into someone that she met in a previous episode? At least in Quantum Leap, only the audience could see Scott Bakula. It is Whedon so I'll watch it but I'm not really hooked yet.

It's giving me serious issues with the "Joss Whedon is a total feminist! Rock on!" theory.

I will give it a few episodes. Pilots are always rough. But I am not thrilled.

You may already have seen this, but Whedon talked about this issue on NPR.

i have it on the poor-man dvr, but I haven't watched it. I was going to, and watched firefly instead. so, yeah. it's not capt reynolds and the gang, so it may take a while for me to warm up.

I liked the first one. . .looking forward to tonight's.

If we had seen the first episode of Buffy and had to pass judgment based on that one viewing, it might not be so kind, either.

(Maybe Bad Horse will appear in one of the episodes. . .)

I thought the first ep was pretty good for a pilot. I want to watch the rest of the 7-ep run before I really judge it.

They're already playing with the subversion of that in the pilot itself; I don't think we're supposed to believe that there will be no spillover here, just that it'll be minimal (which, with a great big pile of people in the world, isn't so crazy). Though how elegantly they'll handle that, who knows.

I really didn't like Faith much at all, but as far as I can tell Faith hasn't made an appearance so far, so I'm giving Dushku the benefit of the doubt.

I'm thinking I need to program the DVR.

I haven't watched the pilot yet, but I've been reading a bunch of promo/preview/interview stuff - one of the great/bad things about Whedon is that he's not afraid to talk to the fans. It looks like the pilot was re-written several times and meant to lure in people who may not be familiar with Whedon and the type of stuff he does. In other words, if it seems like he set up some problematic themes without exploring them, it's probably because he simplified the pilot quite a bit. Hopefully, he'll get a chance to start turning that stuff on before the show inevitably gets cancelled.

I thought tonight's episode was a huge step in the right direction... Although, I'm still not convinced Dushku has the acting chops to pull off this whole new-character-every-week-overlaid-on-the-skeleton-of-the-same-character-every-week part. Mad props will be due if she can settle into it.
