15 February 2009

What are you doing today?
Baking a cake, cleaned the kitchen, and will go house shopping a bit later.

Sweeping, scolding, laughing, listening to a book on tape, laundry, visiting, reading.

Laundry, coffee, internet.

Oh, and I'm going to a small get-together this evening. That'll be cool.

Visiting parents this weekend. Just had the customary big Sunday brunch (eggs, pork products, toast/biscuits, pots of coffee). Had a run before hand so I felt morally justified. Now I'm watching Top Chef in the living room and waiting for my brother and nephews to show up while my son naps upstairs. After that, who knows.

Might go to the Zen Center tonight. Depends on how I'm feeling - I'm on medication that makes me drowsy, plus my stomach is unsettled.

I'd probably feel better if I just got out of the house. It's cold but sunny.

Obsessing over real estate and computer-buying "porn," eating yummy leftover chicken stroganoff (last night's take-out), planning to watch some netflix movies (the latest Indiana Jones, which I've never seen, and American Splendor), perhaps a nap.

I love Sundays, especially Sundays with the following week off. (I'll eventually get to cleaning the kitchen, honest I will.)

I just went for a couple laps around Queensbridge Park, then did some stretches. Now I'm gonna wash up and play guitar for a bit. Maybe later I'll go spend some of my unemployment money on comic books and candy.

I watched the game (United stomped Derby County into the turf), had a shower and am about to talk to my boo for a while.

Then a snack (I'm not that hungry, so probably a couple of toasted crumpets with melted cheese on top), I'll make my lunch for tomorrow and head off to bed. I'm reading a good book and there's nothing much on TV, despite having about 200 channels to choose from. I recorded 'Moonstruck' and 'Waitress' the other night but I'm not in the mood to sit through a film this evening.

Mooched around all morning. Baby is currently napping so I am reading the latest Buffy comic and waiting for some friends to show up. Husband is on call, so he's at the hospital.

I skipped church this morning. Body totally totally exhausted with the past week's work schedule...anyway, it's hubby's birthday anyway. He and my daughter are napping (she had a migraine this am) so later on we will get cleaned up and go out to dinner someplace to celebrate. I'm gonna make a cake sometime today too. For his present I gave him money to spend at last week's gun show, as a) I knew I was too busy this week to go shop and b) it's really what he wanted so he's happy. I think he got some ammunition or something for his next trip to the range.

The house is a wreck, but all I plan to do is run the dishwasher and do a couple loads of laundry. The rest can wait till later.

We're going to hit up the lottery for In the Heights, in hopes of winning tickets for Lin Miranda's last show. I doubt we will but it's worth a shot! We've got nothing else going on today.

A special trip across the river to pick up special cat food for my special cat's kidneys, then off to work. When I get home I'll try to make stuffed cabbage rolls without waking up my roommate, because I have been craving them like crazy the past few days.

Also might try posting something pretty to the blue tonight. First time, omg.

Lunch. Gym. Research grant application. Work on said research. Coraline once the rain starts tonight (with popcorn, dammit). Meditation. Bed.

Work, laundry, cooking. Prescription filling, grocery shopping. Dusting, folding, wiping. All Star game later on, maybe a beer. Reading and loving "The Line of Beauty". Sleeping. Dreaming.

Brunch (done), laundry (in process), work out (in a minute), clip the cat's nails (scary), pack for work tomorrow.

Pete's for coffee. Hopefully finish my book while I'm there. Then over to the sandwich place next door for lunch. Quick stop at the library to return the book and maybe get something new. Back home to bundle up with some tea and book/Scrubs season 6.

Later I will ponder dinner.

Going to work. Was hoping to be able to work from home because of planned train strike, but the strike was averted at the last minute, so here I am on the train :-(

movies on netflix. some angry mushroom needlepoint. perhaps some cleaning, i've already done a load of hang-dry laundry. i am debating painting which is unlikely and debating gaming which is more likely.

fat ass sitting is the most likely of all.

Right now, eating peanut butter on toast and drinking a chai tea. I just got home from a wonderful long hike in the sunshine (hard to believe this is February in Canada). Laundry, cleaning, other icky have-to-do stuff this afternoon even though I'd rather be out enjoying the sunshine.
(Hugh Janus - I'm interested to know which comics and candy you bought. That sounds like the most fun I've heard of for unemployment money!)

I haven't gone yet for comic books, I got carried away playing guitar. Since I haven't been smoking my singing voice is back, and it's really quite fun.

A freind recommended "Tales from the Bully Pulpit," but it looks to be pretty expensive. I read "Haunted Tank" as a kid, and I saw there's a new version out now, instead of WWII it's Iraq, and the ghost of J.E.B. Stuart is riding around beheading terrrrrists on behalf of a black M1A1 Abrams tank commander named Jamal Stuart (I mean the whole point of the original is that they're in this rinky-dink Stuart tank, right?), and shit, I think I just convinced myself not to buy it, that sounds pretty wack.

Any suggestions? I like comic books without the pretension to "graphic novel" status. Maybe I'll go look for newer Conan titles; I have the Busiek/Nord Vol. 1 and like it very much.

As a kid I read Moon Knight, The Unknown Soldier, Conan, and an odd assortment of strange shit like Megaton Man, Destroyer Duck, Alien Legion, and Reid Fleming: World's Toughest Milkman. Any suggestions?

Just back from church and the gym. I'm going to shower, charge my camera battery, eat leftover pizza, and go to my friend's baby's memorial where she's asked me to be the photographer. I have no idea what I'm going to photograph, and I'm really uncomfortable at the idea of shoving my camera in people's faces, but I will do it for her. After that there's a Twitter meetup that I may or may not go to, depending how I feel after the memorial.

Woke up and did my bright-light therapy, then hung about for a while, then went to the gym and did a class called "Groove," which was totally fun even though it was less a dance class and more an aerobics class with various pretend-dance moves but there was laughing and clapping so that was nice, and then I did some more gym stuff and then went in the hot tub where some idiot blowhards were talking WAY too loudly about various stupid topics and being completely oblivious to the way every other person in the hot tub was studiously avoiding eye contact because dudes, we're here to relax, not talk about how everyone in Mexico is in a drug cartel, thanks.

Anyway. Then I came home and talked to my brother, and soon I will shower and then go buy steaks for dinner tonight. Yum.

Went to work this morning which was a complete disaster area (thanks boys), came home to listen to much whining from my parents about events taking place on Thursday (I don't want to jinx it, but I'll post about it then), and took a shower. I'm currently waiting on dinner and then I'll be putting the finishing touches on my project/presentation that are due tomorrow.

Feeling a bit under the weather, so I went for the paper this morning, made coffee, and took my time reading. The kids played video games, and I chatted with my mom and mom-in-law (who likes me better than her stepson). This afternoon I brought a box of books to my favorite used book store, in exchange for store credit. Man, I love that place. Now I'm making dinner, got my feet up while it cooks, and perusing the internet. Ahh, life is good.

Monday here.

I spent last night at my grandparents. I love it, I become either an elderly woman or a very young child. We had a roast dinner, watched Cranford - a BBC production on the television, drank tea and ate cake, and settled down in front of the television in our nightgowns with our dressing gowns on. No one else ever gets to see that side of me.

They live across the road - literally - from the beach, so I awoke early this morning to ocean breezes, and I caught two trains to get to work on time. I missed one train at the station, so sat there and played with make-up and now I'm wearing make-up to work for the first time in a very very long time. I then stood for the first train ride into the city, and bought a coffee whilst waiting for my train out of the city and to work.

Now I'm at work and I've put a job ad online, had a meeting, written up the minutes, and processed 11 invoices. I'm about to close the batch, go for lunch, and put out a news service this afternoon.

This evening I'm having a quiet one, and I'll watch an episode or two of Mad Men, and go to sleep early.

I just finished a long walk through Greenwich Village, from the West 4th Street Station, to the Hudson River, where I could see the Erie Lackawanna neon sign over in Jersey.

It was so quiet there, over at the waterfront. Pindrop quiet.

Damn, the Village was beautiful. I'm kicking myself in the ass right now because I forgot to take my camera with me. I really ought to make that one of my steady pocket items, one of the things I always bring with me when I leave the house, like my keys and wallet.

Creating a marketing plan for a quasi-existent IT start-up firm. I'm doing this for class, and have relatively little interest in IT services, even though I am one. :P

I felt really gross and corporate writing this tidbit:

The continued economic downturn also benefits small off-site IT, as they can provide service as an invoice, rather than as employees. A company which downsizes may need only sporadic IT services, and therefore can replace salaried, insured employees with invoiced, contracted IT service monitoring.

It sucks because it's true.
