Are wild koalas and sugar gliders usually this human friendly?

Wild koalas definitely not. They are in just as much distress and shock though as the people from these fires.

Same with sugar gliders. Even mine, who were pretty damn tame, would occasionally hide under the wardrobe until I offered up a grape.

I adore pictures like these. The look of relief on the sugar glider's face...and the picture of the koala sipping water...just strums my heartstrings.

"Tree says he's spoken to wildlife officials, and the koala, nicknamed Sam, is doing fine. And it turns out he's a she". I didn't notice the firefighter was called Tree.

If anybody wants to help, Wildlife Victoria has a donations page. They've lost two wildlife sanctuaries in the fires, and obviously have a lot more animals like Sam to help.
