26 January 2009

i had my first day of my new job today and had a bad cold, and still have a cold, and am still working but at home now since its seven oclock, and have to go to edinburgh tomorrow, with my cold. [More:]why do i always get sick in these situations? this is not a rhetorical question, i want an answer. sorry, am tired as hell, i sound like an asshole, am not, i promise.
Stress probably lowers your immunity. I used to get sick during finals every semester of college.

Yes, amro is right. Sorry you're not feeling well, love. Get as much sleep as you can, drink lots of warm water, stay warm, and take some B vitamins.

Definitely stress lowering your defences. Zinc, B-vits, C-vits, aspirin or ibuprofen.

uck! I'm still in recovery from a cold... I'm feeling for you, big time. I really wouldn't have wanted to travel.

Make a nice thermos of ginger tea with lemon and honey to take with you.

At my last job I managed to get the flu my first day on the job. I struggled through but got so sick that night that I ended up calling in sick for my second day on the job. I ended up doing well there but it was an inauspicious beginning.

I get sick in new situations too. New job = migraine! Ugh. It helps me to find a spot somewhere where I can close my eyes and take a few deep breaths. A warm drink helps, and ibuprophen. Avoid junk food if you can, it only makes things worse. Eat healthy and get sleep. Mom wasn't lying about that stuff.

Yo, ginger honey lemon tea, that's right! Or honey lemon whiskey and hot black tea, you're in a good place for that. Try a hot honey lemon quaalude, that'll do the trick, too, if by trick you mean passing out and missing your Edinburgh meeting. Hot chocolate, peppermint, and Bach's Art of Fugue -- there's a great new recording by Pierre-Laurent Aimard, who points out every dissonance and resolution and really lets a frequently stifled work breathe anew. (Part I/Part II)
