Pissing Contest: Whose will freeze first? [More:] I know I won't win, but it's cold. Gonna get colder. Eleven degrees overnight by tomrrow night and the next.

Tangentally, I am too lazy/overwhelmed to get up from my desk and go pee. This is odd. I'm usually all about stepping away from the desk.
It was -8F here this morning. The radio mumbled something about -30F tomorrow night. I'm hoping it doesn't quite get that bad.

I was in -40 a few years ago (the point where Fahrenheit and Celsius meet)...and out at a trailer in the woods so I had to pee outside. The resulting cloud of steam was so dense I couldn't see what I was doing.

We've been getting chinooks through here (Calgary) lately, so the temperature's all over the map. Got up to 7C/44F yesterday, -10C now, up to 2C today, and up to 10C tomorrow. It's weird, but I'm not complaining. Didn't need a jacket to go to the store yesterday afternoon!

Oh god. Temperatures in the minuses = me not going to work. It was 11F this morning when I left the house.

Um, yeah, record highs here today. Near 70. Sorry.

13ºF right now but going down to -4ºF tomorrow. I've been busy taping sheets of plastic over the insides of our giant leaky windows to slow down the arctic winds sailing through the house. We're going to try to preserve the existing windows in the house for historical reasons but we need to figure out some way to make them weather sealed other than giant sheets of plastic. There are companies that make internal storm windows in custom sizes but since there are 23 windows in the house, that'll cost some money.

Despite the fact that I went out for a long walk with the dog first thing this morning, I didn't quite realize how cold it was, and got on my bike to come in here without putting shoe covers on. If that ride had been two miles longer I would have damaged my toes, like, for real. I was a hurtin' puppy dog. (It was only in the teens, but there is no such thing as "only" in the teens when you're coming down a hill at 39 mph.)

Was in the -20s here for the last two weeks, and today it's +33 and freezing rain. I've had to per outside at -50, unzip everything to hang my hind end out. NotFun. One of those urinating buddies for women are really great for that.

octothorpe, they make nice inserts for historic windows so they can slide and seal like new ones (but you have to either cut down the sash or modify the frame). My experience with double-pane windows in a 1920s townhome, though, has led me to think that new double-pane windows with fake stick-on muntins would actually be a decent way to go (unless you're trying to get historic-preservation tax credits, in which case it usually isn't approved). I'm a staunch preservationist but I'm also practical.

Also, plastic does more than you think it will.

72 and sunny here in San Jose. Not so good really, as much as I like it, we need rain and sunny spring-like weather isn't helping.

stilicho, we live in a city designated historic district, fake stick-on muntins are pretty much a hanging offense here. You can put in replacement sashes but they have to match the pattern of the previous ones and have to be wood with real wood dividers. I don't think that any brand-name window vendor would get approved, we'll have to go with custom built sashes from a millwork if we want to replace any street facing windows.

Damn I love living in Texas right now. I'm still riding my bicycle to work.
