AskMeCha: Bridal shower gift for honeymoon [More:]So I am going to a shower this weekend and the invitation says to please bring a gift to be used on the couple's honeymoon in St. Lucia.

They are registered at Macy's, but not for anything vacation-y.

Of course, the first thing I thought of was dirty stuff, but since it's hosted by Bride's aunt, I don't think that is what they mean.

Any ideas of what I could bring as a tropical honeymoon gift?
Weird. Is this normal? If I were having a wedding and then going on the trip, the last thing I'd want is a bunch of shit that I had to pack along with me.

Oh, sorry, no suggestions.

There are flip flops that say "bride" and "groom" backwards on the bottom, so when you walk on sand you can see an imprint of the words.

mudpuppie- totally agree.
amro- that sounds good! Anywhere I could get them in NY before Sunday?

Confusing instruction. I bet the Aunt does mean "dirty stuff" - lingerie, etc. Heck, my aunt bought my sister lingerie for the family shower, which made my sister blush like crazy.

Go to the thrift store, find two horribly oversized panama shirts (anything that screams "I'm from the US!", and wrap it up.

Or a his/her negligee set. (make sure his is the frilly one)

[this is why I'm not allowed at bridal showers]

Yeah, TPS- but the invitation also mentioned them being registered at Macy's, so then I'm like ok, do you want pots and pans, sunblock and towels, or bras and panties?

Maybe I'll just do lingerie and pretend to look confused when everyone else pulls out beach toys. I guess it's better than the opposite, right?

I think you should go the other way. Give them beach toys when everyone else gives them lingerie, and then you can wink and pretend that you're really kinky and you know things they don't.

A 24-pack of heavy duty AA batteries is a gift that keeps on giving. . .And it can be as salacious (or not) as you want.

A life-jacket. That'll baffle and/or tittilate everybody.

Seriously? I'd call the aunt and ASK.

Don't ask me, tho-once I went to a lingerie shower and gave the bride a roll of Saran Wrap (along with a gift certificate to Victoria's Secret, but, still.)

Enh, I was out of town when the invitation to my cousin's his-and-hers shower was sent and for the party as well. I waited until I was sent the wedding invitation, looked them up on the knot and picked out something from the registry. I DID get a thank you note, but Dara sent it before the wedding.

So... I'm so far out of it when it comes to this sort of doodah that it's a joke, but it sounds to me as if you are supposed to bring a bridal shower gift (St. Lucia thing) and also later give a wedding gift (Macy's thing).

Maybe it's a subtle hint to give cash? You're not supposed to ask directly...?

A double raft for floating in the ocean, or one with cupholders if they're going to an all-inclusive resort.

it sounds to me as if you are supposed to bring a bridal shower gift (St. Lucia thing) and also later give a wedding gift (Macy's thing)

That's how I interpret it, too - you're expected to bring gifts to both events.
