Could the constant need to invent new themes have killed interest? Foto Friday seemed more fun when it was a free-for-all and people posted their best.

For a few months I was announcing a theme and starting the friday thread. But then I decided to back away from participating on the internet and quit (there was no memo). I was never sure if people liked having a pre-announced theme (picked by the dictatorial me, though usually from the wiki page of future themes), or if they just wanted a free-for-all. But I love photo friday and would be pleased to have someone pick it up again.

I loved Photo Friday. But now MeCha is blocked from work, which means I either have to remember to post something when I get up at 6am (and I can hardly remember to let Olive outside), or post it when I get home from work (which is 9pm or later EST). The timing is just off for me.

Yeah, you know, I always miss Photo Friday because I forget until, you know, Saturday or something. Maybe "Friday" could be a loose interpretation, as in the day when the thread gets posted, and then we can post our photos throughout the week until the following Friday?

The photo friday threads usually got sidebarred, so it was pretty easy to post through the week. Most of the activity was on friday, though.

I miss it too.

So would Saturday work better for people? Or even Sunday? Because I loved Photo Friday, too, and it sounds like people would like to have it back.

Also: theme or no theme?

Weekend would be good for me. Theme is fine, or no theme is fine too.

I'm pro Photo Friday and pro Theme. If coming up with them is a hinderance we could just brainstorm a bunch of them in this thread and then just run through them.

Or maybe we could do it within an invite only flickr group? ALthough that would mean we all need flickr accounts - but I think most of us have one....

I'm pro theme, too, but IMHO they seem to work better when they're broad/open to interpretation. Ardiril can't be the only one who felt constrained by at least some of the themes. What do people think of starting next Saturday with your best photo since the last Photo Friday (which Z_R tells me was in November)?

I have a good picture that would fit the theme: "A pic of your dad that captures his personality" Does anyone else have such a picture? Or should I just post it?

I'm pro theme, but it's nice when the theme is open to interpretation, or is sort of broad. And I'm pro photo friday. It gets posted on friday, but lasts the week, in my view, and the friday posting allows the weekend to play with it... but we could switch days, it doesn't matter.

Various people have kept the ball rolling in the past, and at one time we attempted a system (the one who makes the post and picks the theme also chooses a person to make the post and pick the theme for the following week, and the theme was supposed to be announced on monday, blah, blah - but as systems go, it went).

We definitely got off track during the holiday, but anyone can pick up the ball. If you guys would like, I can give it a go (I'm exactly like cjorgensen, is my problem). If I can schedule a reminder for myself, maybe I'll manage. I'm trying to be slightly less flaky this year. That's my new year's resolution, "slightly less flaky."

Photo Fridays were never restricted by the day, that's just the initiation point.

I like theme! I like photos! I hope to participate somewhat regularly.

I'm pro-Friday posting, pro-theme, and pro-seeing-this-come-back-again.

Also, posting the theme several days ahead of time is a DEFINITE plus, because it serves as a reminder to people.

Okay, so what's the plan? I vote Saturdays with a broad theme posted on, say, Tuesday or Wednesday? And this Saturday's theme being whatever the hell you want, yay, its back! Yays? Nays?
