Date from Hell Well... that might be overstating it a little[More:]

But I certainly won't be available for a second date.

Favourite quotes from him include (but are not limited to)

- It's sad when you look at your ex and realise you're the best person they're ever going to go out with

- I had to push her into looking after herself, and when we broke up she gave up, and let herself go, and she got really fat

- I was embarrassed to be seen in public with her, as she wore mismatched clothing

I politely declined the offer of a lift home, said good bye, and ran away as quick as I could.
But why? He sounds fantastic!

Just kidding. Bullet dodged, well done. Enjoy the rest of your evening\!

Oh, are we supposed to be wearing stuff that matches again? I never can keep that straight.

What a shame. He sounded like a lovely empathetic soul.

Yeah, that one's a real keeper.

Actually, meeting someone like this makes me worry... What if people see ME like this? like an arrogant snot with no idea of social etiquette and self-deluded?

And the worst part is that I know that there ARE people that see me like that...

But then again... there are plenty that don't...

hee. And this is in the on-our-best-behavior let's-impress-em stage. Imagine when he stops being so charming.

I know this is how some people see my good friend J. I had coffee with him over the holidays, and he started with, "I saw my ex a few weeks ago. He's gotten fat again. He's moved in with his "partner", who by the way is also fat."

Me: "That's mean."

"What, it's true!"

Don't you sort of wish that there were a 1-800-REDFLAG kind of hotline you could call into to report encounters like that? There should be a master list for people to cross-check their dates against before they go out. Okay, maybe not, but still.

So I gather that this guy was built like Dolph Lundgren and had a perfect face with a stunning smile, a very rewarding career (financially as well as in other ways) and a giving personality, and dressed like an Italian man every day?

No? Well then, HAHA, I'm tagging him as projecting. Neener. He got fat and let himself go while wearing mismatched clothing and realized that his ex was the best catch he'd ever get because his abrasive personality scares everyone away.

sarabeth - when I was in college, someone started a website to log dates with assholes/date rapists. I think one guy sued.

Ha, with a date like that, the next guy's gotta be better, right?

No, see, this is one that you capture, then stuff and hang over the mantle. That way he doesn't reproduce.

You pretty much know now how to behave in order to be his wife. . .question is, are you up to those standards. . .

You know, this is why I miss dating. Bad dates with creepy guys who you can gladly say you'll never see again. They give you such great stories to tell.

Like this one. The moment you realized he was a fuckwit, you should have started screwing with him. Those are the best, kind of like unsolicited AOL chats back in the early to mid-nineties.

(I can't believe I'm jealous of your bad date. I'm sorry. That's probably not appropriate, is it? But I'm glad you ditched the dude, and I agree there should be some sort of National Registry of Un-datable Dumbasses. Let's start one.)

Actually, brina, I had to hide the spark of jubilation that came into my eye as soon as he made the comment about being the best... I had already written him off by that stage, but when he said that my first thought was: "I can dine out on this story for WEEKS!"
