No Mo' Ho Ho Ho Damn. Even Santa Claus is having a hard time finding work these days.
What a strange article. I get the "things are tough all over" vibe but a lot of these people seemed to be bringing in 10-30K in the holiday season. Not saying it's not hard work -- did you read the comments? those people are a little weird -- but on the one hand it's a great way to show how places are cutting back, on the other hand I don't think it makes it clear at all how much work a lot of this stuff is. I'm definitely sitting here thinking "well why don't they hire the former alcoholics afor $25/hour and then everyone wins?"

What a strange article.

Well, y'know, it is the New York Post, home of the infamous "Headless Body In Topless Bar" headline.

but a lot of these people seemed to be bringing in 10-30K in the holiday season.

Yeah. Me, I'm kicking myself right now and wondering why the hell I didn't pick up on this gig while the going was good.

I'm definitely sitting here thinking "well why don't they hire the former alcoholics afor $25/hour and then everyone wins?"

Because the labor market is so shitty that people will work for just about anything. The difference between $25 an hour and the $8-9 that those guys are probably getting is money that can go into the employer's pocket. Their moral compass isn't based on what's fair; it's based on what the market allows them to get away with. Why pay a living wage when you don't have to?
