21 October 2008

I just voted for Obama! Well. Kinda anyway.[More:]

I'm an Aussie, born and bred, so can't actually take part in this election - Dammit! BUT we have an American intern at the moment, and I just took her vote down to the mail room. Feel like I've done my part now, be the change you want in this world and all that.

Funny how taking a letter down made me a little bit teary.
I also just voted for Obama - well, as a Canadian, what I mean is I enthusiastically read the politics page of the Huffington post.

I've destroyed every McCain/Palin lawn sign in my street.

(admittedly, it's really a road, and no-one has a lawn, but the thought was there...)

jonathanstrange, I'm living abroad right now too, and when I cast my vote, everyone in the office came in and took photos of me filling in my bubbles on the absentee ballot! I just mailed it yesterday...hope it gets there on time! Everyone was pretty astounded at a) how much there was to vote on (everyone thought voting for the board of the water district was pretty wild) and b) how complicated the ballot was compared to the ballots they're used to in their own countries.

Gaah, 13 days until I can vote! 13 days. 13. I can't take it much longer.

I voted yesterday for Obama. My vote will count as much as the Australian and Canadian since I live in Texas. Living in a blue town in a red state is never fun. But I'm hoping we'll get rid of the the republican Congressman in my district. The I was surprised by the lines at the early voting station and they had 2x the number of voting booths as last time.

What birdherder said, but substitute "will vote tomorrow" for "voted yesterday".

I adore early voting.

I like it too, but there's one problem with it in my state: touchscreen only. You want to use paper ballots, you have to line up on election day. You want the convenience of early voting, it's the Hackatron ElectionFixr 2000 or nothing.

On the opposite side of birdherder's fence. My Obama vote in Illinois isn't going to change anything, but I'm still excited to cast it.

I still don't know who I'm voting for. If all else fails, I'm writing in Mike Gravel.

I just looked up the sample ballot for my Chicago ward yesterday. It's insane. 7 candidates for president alone! 140 (that's right, 140) judicial retention questions where you answer Yes or No as to whether that judge should remain on the bench. Plus all the water reclamation district and all that stuff.

I'm a big fan of voting on actual election day. There's just something about it that makes me feel all warm and fuzzy.

I have my absentee ballot in hand, but am trying to sleuth out info on some of the itty-bitty local offices. Gosh, it's hard to find good clear unbiased info about some of these folks.

And, I hate voting on election day - it always means hours of standing in line after a full day of work. So, I'm very glad to have a mail-in ballot!

when you're sad, think of right wingers in Vermont (there must be at least a couple dozen there, I'm sure) watching their Senator, the honorable Bernie Sanders, on Fox News. doesn't that make you smile a bit?

Me too... I had to make a call about whether I wanted to vote early via absentee ballot or line up at the polls. Lining up takes time out of election day, and I hope to do a lot of volunteering that day. On the other hand, it's exciting in that civic community way. Looks like I'm going to the polls.

Not cool. Seriously. . .no matter who you are for or what your politics are.

We dropped off our (mail-in) ballots yesterday, at the County Election Headquarters. So now the wait.

I just got my absentee ballot in the mail, woohoooooo!

pompomtom, did you really destroy signs? Or did you mean that if there were signs (and lawns) you'd be tempted?
posted by Specklet 22 October | 11:40
I took pompomtom's meaning to be that someone had placed signs in the public right-of-way on his street, and he took them down. Maybe I misunderstood?

First-time mail-in voter here, too. Very exciting. I marked my ballot extra hard to signify OH HELLS NO re: Prop 8.

pompomtom lives in Melbourne, Australia. There are no McCain/Palin signs. No need to fret, people!

Yay for voting! I'm thrilling for all of you by proxy.
