Tivo surgery? Anyone ever engage in Tivo surgery? The hard drive on my old one has gone kaput and I'm considering swapping out the drive myself. →[More:] It seems like kits you can get that are pre-formatted are pretty easy to use. I'm not really the "pop open the computer and futz around" type, though...so I can't decide if I'm getting in over my head in order to save $50.

I have a friend who wrote a book on hacking your TiVo -- Hacking TiVo : the expansion, enhancement, and development starter kit by Jeff Keegan. If you can, get it out of the library; if they have a more recent book (as he wrote that in 2004), it may be more useful, I don't know. But there are plenty of manuals on how to DIY.

Ah, cool. I'll look and see I can dig that up. Anything to boost my confidence before cracking into the Tivo.
