I stumbled upon a gently used Macbook for a reasonable sum for the mister not too long ago. I loaded it with the usual apps plus some fun/cool stuff (macsaber, old-skool arcade games, topo software for logging rides, GPS widget, etc.) Which of course means that he primarily uses it as an expensive typewriter :/

OK, lfr...it's only been a day, but you asked for it. :)

Programs:

Bean, a lightweight word processor that's heaps nicer to use than NeoOffice or Word
NeoOffice, for the stuff Bean can't do
Yum, an AMAZING recipe organizer - I can copy lists of ingredients from a website and just paste them into this database-looking thing...ah, here's a screenshot or two.
Undercover, a great-sounding anti-theft thing that's actually a bunch of guys in Belgium who monitor your laptop after it walks off, take photos of the person using it, and liaise with local police all over the world to get it back; they have a really high success rate (this one is $49, I think, but is way worth it)
