Wednesday 3-point update [More:]
1. My hotel room is very nice - plain but perfectly functional. I had a choice either of a room with twin single beds, or a wheelchair accessible room with a double bed. I like a big bed so chose the latter. Good choice, because the wheelchair access means it has plenty of space and a lovely big walk-in shower. And the layout is such that I can even watch the TV while I'm on the loo. So I did. Because I could. I might even do that again tonight.

2. I am totally in the doghouse with Bailey because when I came round this morning to see to the cats she somehow got shut in my computer room all day with no food, drink or litter box (but she didn't make any mess, good girl). Now she's acting like she was about to wither away and slip down a grid from starvation.

3. I just applied online for two more jobs.
1. I can't sit down and I can barely walk because of the boot camp class on Monday. I still went to the gym this morning and felt minor pain but it was still good. It's a good pain.

2. It is my FIL's 60th birthday today. We have a cake for him with 60 candles and a really happy cheerful book (The Way of the World by Ron Suskind)! We're going to surprise him at his restaurant today and we're having another surprise party for him on Sunday.

3. I'm going out tonight. Dinner and movies.

1. I'm waiting for the Grandbun and his parents to show up for a visit *impatiently tapping foot*

2. Thanks to a really big error I made in the checkbook, I had more money than I thought I had. Let's just say, that came in incredibly handy...

3. I need to mow the lawn. But it's too hot now.

1. My lecture went really well and hopefully the resulting high will carry me through the rest of the day.

2. Carpet-install Friday! Whoo.

3. Weather looks clear for Guy's flight home tonight.

1. Post-docs don't officially get paid maternity leave, but because I have so much sick leave accrued I can just use all of that, add on the vacation time I haven't taken this year and I have enough to be paid for 12 weeks off. Then my boss said that the extra two weeks I could just "have" because due to our university's slapdash administrative policy regarding post-docs, nobody keeps track of our leave anyway. This means that I have no paperwork to fill out because I will be on continuous pay. This means that there is no danger of me losing my benefits through some paperwork fuckup. Which was my main worry. And of course I can take extra unpaid leave if need be. This is a relief.

2. I'm so happy about the above that I'm all giddy and don't want to work for the rest of the day. But at the same time I'm really motivated. It's like being on a caffeine high.

3. I am peer-reviewing a paper for a journal and know two of the authors quite well. Sometimes a minor conflict like this is unavoidable (and the editor is aware that I know the authors) because our field is so small. I'm being super-rigorous though (I hope) and am feeling good about my comments and criticisms.

1. Pouring, pouring rain outside, thunderstorms approaching. There's going to be some kind of record broken this summer for the Boston area.

2. Grumpy, grumpy grumpy over men who act interested, but then aren't when I'm interested back.

3. I had my gall bladder out 10 years ago, but now am getting a very similar chest pain. May post to Askme later about this (HATE not being able to access it at work!!)

4. In a rotten mood today, as you can see.

3. FREAKING OUT.

1. Just finished battling off a fever, was healthy over the weekend, and now I'm just wrecked with a cold.

2. Fall training schedule came out at work. Every season, I'd laugh at the irony of the class entitled "Writing Effective Emails and Memo's" but now they've fixed it. Sadness.

3. The lady has the day off, and has been enjoying the perfect weather at the beach all day. But you know, I'm in decent spirits through it all.

3-point ARGHdate:

1. Took bazillion documents to the mortgage person yesterday. Made list of bazillion more documents needed. My 2006 taxes have vanished. How is this possible? Argh. Also, now have all new fun things to worry and obsess over, like, the fact that my son's father was supposed to pay me child support and yet, never has, but I don't wish to pursue this (blood; stone; fuck it) and set the feds on his trail, neither do I want to lose my possibilities of getting a house, neither do I want the last 15 years of my bank statements pored through. Argh.

2. Cranky today for no discernible reason. Argh.

3. The graphics on the teachers brochure I just thought I had finished look amazing. Pity you can't read the text. Do they really have to read the text? God. People are so inconsiderate of the Artist. Argh.

(I feel you, tr33hggr - we have been signed up for daycare since month 4 of pregnancy, and budgeting for it then too. At Manhattan prices. Argh.)

1. Feel blue today. No new school for the fall, rent going up (a lot), can't afford to get away, fell off my diet, health concerns. Still, things could be much worse. Feeling like a baby. A big blue baby.

2. I assigned my AP students a choice of three books for the summer: Hemingway's For Whom the Bell Tolls, Marquez's One Hundred Years of Solitude, or Steinbeck's The Grapes of Wrath. (Just a little light summer reading.) I didn't have enough copies of one, so this seemed like a good solution. Except, I've only read the Steinbeck before. And procrastinator that I am, I still have most of the other two to read. Course, there's always CliffsNotes.

3. I was going to make some chili, but maybe I'll save that for tomorrow. I think I need a nap. And a cranky pill.

1. I've got some serious wanderlust going on right now. At least it's not as bad as yesterday. I still want out though.

2. This project seems to not ever want to be finished. How much of that is me procrastinating and refreshing LJ/AskMe/MeCha and how much of that is due to the fact that the end is totes nigh and I'm bored with it, I don't know.

3. I've got my shit together to move out and so does the girl with the dog. Now if the girl with the iguana would ANSWER HER FUCKING PHONE we could all actually start this process. (In a perfect world, we would be all moved in by the end of the month before 2 of us start school and my job gets BATSHIT but somehow I see that not happening.)

4. I'm slowly coming to some realizations about my folks. And it's not pretty.

1. i could be your au pair for far less. Christ, maybe i should look into nannyhood. i wonder if i need a large umbrella.

2. Good thing i am stocked up on cranky pills.

3. Where the hell are all my scissors?

1. Stayed away from work sick (I'd say I stayed home sick from work, but I work from home). Slept all morning, laying around all afternoon. I feel better.
2. Must stop reading fashion magazines. My shopping list is out of control and, alas, my budget is not.
3. Now that I am so well rested, I'm feeling like I want to be productive. Cleaning, or exercising perhaps?

1) Last night's soup? Amazing. brodonley, who at 18 is actually bigger than I am (*harumph*) and quite a persnickety individual with his food, proclaimed "oh wow, this is actually delicious!". Thanks for that vote of confidence, bro.

2) A bit paranoid that when I go to the Polish consulate in Santa Monica tomorrow to apply for my work visa that my photos will somehow violate one of the restrictions Poland seems to place on official images of oneself.

3) A friend sent me already-signed-over-to-me traveler's checks denominated in British pounds, and I hope they aren't worthless! My bank won't touch them, nor will the local bureau de change...I'll have to find an AmEx office and then go there, and perhaps beg and plead, and really I'd just like my $120, please.

1. I got myself out of the house this morning (which is more than I accomplished yesterday) and went to a class at the gym that's a combo of yoga, tai chi, and pilates, and I was highly skeptical because those sorts of things always read to me like "Let's mash all the weird girly/Asian shit together and get it out of the way," but it was a really great class and I liked the instructor and my tendinitis-y foot did not hurt at all!

2. When I got home, I saw that we had left the back patio door wide open, and the cat was nowhere to be found. I freaked out, put down my stuff, called the cat's name, and started walking hurriedly toward the back door to see if she was in the yard -- only to see her sitting and looking at me from outside the other sliding glass door, which was closed, and the expression on her face seemed mostly to be, "Can I come in now?" (And the birds were frolicking freely at the feeder, so she can't have gotten up to much trouble.)

3. There are still boxes everywhere, but I think we're down to one layer of boxes with large chunks of carpet in between. It's like the global warming of boxes, glaciers melting into ice floes....

1. Spent $246 on a vet visit today for a cat. He's been feeling poorly (he's a fighter and gets infections, at times) and I finally had to break down and take him in because our usual housecall vet lost her partner and is not back working yet. Some of this was bloodwork, which is due tomorrow. I feel foolish doing this, but at the office, he was not looking good and the slight fever did not account, in my mind, for how shitty he felt.

2. Two weeks from today, taking Daughter to SF State.

3. Looking at too many naked people on Flickr. Not sure why, as it's not that exciting. More, like, I can't believe that people would DO that, faces and all.

1. I just bought a pair of FiveFingers KSOs. Most comfortable things ever. I am never going back to real shoes if I can help it.

2. I leave for Burning Man in 13 days. Haven't sewn half of my outfits. F**k!!!!!

3. The new albums by Iron & Wine, Emmylou Harris, and Pop Levi are pure genius. It's a great season for records.

1. Visit to Mr. V's oncologist today. Long story, maybe I'll make a seperate post.

2. Feeling a pain in the center of my chest. Probably gas, but I worry.

3. Other than that, it's one of those days where I caught a glimpse of myself in a mirror and actually liked what I saw.

4. One of my high school classmates (just a classmate, not a friend, not a non-friend) is a newsanchor and today I saw her on Fox Channel 5 New York! Go Alyson!!

1. Grandma's funeral was yesterday. (It's okay, really, guys... 90 years is a pretty good run.)

2. Got to see lots and lots and lots of cousins and other assorted relatives at the funeral that I haven't seen in years.

3. Polish people deal with grief by eating. I very much enjoyed the food, but now I need to get back on my diet!

God bless ya Grandma. I'm gonna miss ya!
