Much improved since I looked at it earlier this year, trying to find the one nearest to me. It was something like 900 miles away, if I remember correctly. :(
Over my four years in Vegas, I occasionally missed having a Waffle House available. However, during my two-month visit to South Carolina earlier this year, I ate there the first week and that was it.
Here are my local locations. I haven't been to a Waffle House since I was chasing some guy in St. Augustine when I was 19. Or maybe I just parked in the parking lot for a minute. I can't remember.
essexjan: Be aware that to get hash browns as dark as pictured on the menu, you must order them 'scattered well'. My preference is "topped and smothered", or chili and onions.
Oh, essexjan, if you could see your way clear to get nearer MY neck of the woods it would be my great delight to introduce you into the authentic Waffle House experience.
My husband used to manage one. I myself have worked at quite a few but thankfully years and years and years ago...
The ultimate experience is going there during third shift. Dinner AND a floor show! ;-)
The Waffle House that's about a 2-minute walk from my house just unexpectedly closed its doors last week, with signs in the windows saying "THIS LOCATION PERMANENTLY CLOSED." I'm seriously bummed about this, esp. as it was the ONLY thing within a 2-minute walk from my house that wasn't somebody else's house.
We had a disappointing experience at a Waffle House on the way to Miami years ago, on the edge of Savannah. The food was very meh, but it may have been an anomaly.
(Next time in Vegas, Ardiril, we must go to In & Out. I cannot go through life without trying In & Out.)
i, too, Pips, of the In & Out.
i've been to that Waffle House.
In the south they're reliable, creeping north they start to suck. Any decent english breakfast has a good chance of being a touch better.
A solid diner is a precious and wonderful thing.
Cheap eats help fund the arts.
Pips: The next time you're in Vegas, I won't let you guys get anywhere near the Strip. Downtown, maybe.
We look forward. (And may never recover, I suspect.)
I must say, though, I rather like the cheeze of the strip, too. I want me a borg teddy bear. And I have a soft spot for the Flamingo. There's room for it all, I say. (Nothing with a velvet rope, though, that's for sure.)
