UU shooting "An unemployed man accused of opening fire with a shotgun and killing two people at a Unitarian church apparently targeted the congregation out of hatred for its liberal social policies, police said Monday."→[More:] Ooof. I know some of the people at this church. The man killed was a foster parent.

I'm a lapsed UU, but born and bred, third generation. I'm proud of "my people." Standing up to gunfire.

The foster parent thing -- oof. As a fellow foster parent, and a (lapsed) UU, I am so proud and sorrowful.

I was just reading this on the blue, too. So tragic. However, reading some comments, such as this one from kalessin, I would like to go to the nearest UU Church, at their very next meeting (- though, unfortunately, the nearest one would not be near enough for that to be possible). I bet there are a lot more like me.

I've been following this story, Claudia_SF... UUs everywhere should be really proud of how the people in that church reacted, and continue to react, to this senseless act.

A first-hand account was posted to one of my favorite blogs, Shakesville.

Incidentally, given the nature of the UU church, it saddens me that certain people see this as an opportunity to promote their views on the necessity of handguns and other weapons.
