What are you looking forward to this week?→[More:]I am looking forward to dinner with my Dad on Thursday. He just got back from the Galapagos and he said he would try to smuggle a cute animal back for me.
Driving. Lots of it. I had to give up my impromptu road trips to nowhere because of gas prices (the kidlets weren't a problem, I'd just haul them like I did my younger siblings). So I've been missing that whole cruise-control checking out the landscape and deep thinking part of taking a long road trip.
Now this will be in a van full of co-workers, and rooming with an "Everything Must. Be. In. Order." lady for two days, but hey, ROAD TRIP!
A manuscript came back with a second set of revisions. They are mostly minor except for 1 hard to fix comment. I hope to resolve that and send it back to the editor this afternoon. Getting it accepted would make my week.
My doctor's appointment and hopefully the phone call from my brother telling me that my car is all inspected and tagged and ready for me to pick up so I don't have to keep driving my mother's big ass SUV.
Well, I'm invited to a birthday party on Saturday, but it's 600 miles away and I have no vacation time left and not much money so I don't see how I can go, so I suspect what I will be doing this week is scowling and feeling sorry for myself.
I've got six more weeks of hell on my book project (including nights and weekends), so the only thing to look forward to this week is collapsing on Friday.
Right now, the carrot to my stick is the first week of September: Paul Weller in concert two nights in a row, then 10 days in WA and OR. Woo!
I'm also looking forward to my boss returning from her meeting so I can get out of here and drive to the theater and listen to the radio. Somebody turned on FOX. I must get out of here.
Today is the day I've been waiting for. I spent the weekend in sweltering Boston with The Fella's mother, his sister & family, his brother & fiancee, and the extended family: cousins, nephews, nieces, even an old-family-friend unofficial aunt... but not The Fella.
Yes, I spent the whole blistering hot weekend clambering into crowded cars, dressed up too much for comfort but still under-dressed for the parties, frantically trying to remember distant relative's names, and sweating up against his whole family except him.
Happily, I get along well with everyone in his family (uh, except that one broad and that other old crank, but [*thumbs nose*] to them), but it's still ennervating.
Today we're home, resting and doing sweet fuck-all while the car's in the shop. He's snoozing next to me at the moment, while I just luxuriate in being home, shoeless and unself-conscious.
This is my first entire evening with *No Work Whatsoever* since June 26th. I've already toiled for 6 hours in the 97+ degree heat, but I'm home now with a frosty beverage and a relaxed mind.
I'm looking forward to seeing all my 'family' in Ohio again. I made it to Columbus this afternoon and am at Marie's, George's sister's, in Worthington. This evening we're going to a cookout at my friend, Liz's, house in Plain City, and tomorrow I head down to Logan to see Daisy and Bernard, who are Diane and Marie's mom and stepdad.
And I'm also looking forward to Thursday, when (hopefully, flights permitting) I'll be back in NYC and in the arms of my boo.
hm. I can honestly say I'm looking forward to every minute spent in my cool, airconditioned office. Chez lfr is sadly lacking in this department.
However, the mister claims he is thoroughly fed up, and in fact called me this afternoon wishing to drag me out to Home Despot after work so that I may assist him in facilitating the purchase of spendy heat deterrent device(s).
Finding the right Swiss watch...I wondered why the clip of the flirting in Red River between Monty and John Ireland wasn't in the montage at the Oscars a few years ago. ;-)
