BP Radio: Starting at 11 pm EDT. For one hour, maybe two.
You can NEVER go wrong with "Surrender". For my money, along with Fountain of Wayne's "Radiation Vibe", "Starry Eyes" by the Records, and 20/20's "Yellow Pills", it's the perfect pop song.
Yay I am happy. I keep forgetting and thinking Pandora is on the computer and I go to click on the tab to tell them that, yes, this is exactly what I want to hear, now and forever, and then I realize that it's, naturally, BP radio.
Which is what I want to hear, now and forever. YAY!!
Messer Chups are a Russian band that play a weird hybrid of surf and exotica with lots of found sounds thrown in. Very weird and fun - like soundtrck music to some izzare b movie. They eventually added a famous European theremin player (whose name escapes me). They have at least 8 albums out, but I think only one got a US release.
Wow, that sounds awesome, Slack. I definitely have to check them out.
If I started listing my "perfect pop songs" I might be here all night.. happily, there are a lot of them, as I realize when I start trying to think of them.
mgl, that comment makes my day. Now and forever! YAY! :)
Every time I play this song ("The Town Halo," A.C. Newman) in the car, my partner asks, "Is this ELO?" Which cracks me up on several levels. (None of which are hatin' on ELO, because I adore them)
BoPo - when I first got that AC Newman album ELO was the first thing I thought of when I heard that song. It's so straight on ELO that I can't imagine it being an accident on his part.
I'm signing off now, but thanks for the tunes. As always - you really know your way around a tune stack.
I cannot wait to see Mamma Mia, the movie with Meryl Streep. This song is good. I hear I will love ABBA even more after you see the production, or in my case, the movie.
I was an ABBA freak from childhood on... they were an amazing pop music powerhouse. People dismiss 'em as campy or gay or whatever, but I think they were BRILLIANT.
