Unequalled: Wanna hear some 60's British R&B pop? - They're probably best known for doing the original version of "
Police On My Back", later covered by the Clash. Or the fact that they were fronted by Eddy Grant over a decade before he "rocked down to Electric Avenue". But
the Equals were much more than that.
→[More:] They did
straight ahead British rock/pop and occasionally veered into
goofy bubblegum territory. And they made some great
hard driving R&B, as seen in this cut, my personal fave.
Although they only managed to get a few albums out before slipping away, for me they were one of the best bands of the 60s. They had a few British chart hits, but seem to be a footnote in rock history.
