I need a hobby. [More:]
I spent 8 months focusing on one thing that didn't work out, and now I'd like something totally different to keep my mind off it and recharge.

What are your suggestions for some interesting hobbies or activities?

I'd prefer it to be social, since I know that if I have to do it on my lonesome I'll just get stuck to the computer. Regular would be good. Inexpensive is great, as I am a uni student rapidly running out of money (damn fees).

Throw anything at me. ANYTHING. don't care if it's something I'd normally never even consider. I just need ideas.
sing in a choir
draw with a group
join a linux users group
toastmasters (public speaking group)
If I were sociable, these are things I might try.
If you're at university, there must be a million special interest clubs.

Dance classes are a pretty good idea. Try some african-caribbean! Beginner classes are usually not too expensive.

All of my hobbies are solo activities and I'm trying to force myself to be a bit more social (especially since I work at home), so I'm hoping to find an idea to jump start me as well. I found a Toast Masters group near me that intend to hit in the next few weeks.

English/Irish/Scottish country dancing (sometimes also called ceili / ceilidh). SUPER ULTRA FUN and sometimes they go out for ice cream/coffee/beer afterwards. And usually like $5.

Masturbation. Works for me, anyway. Keeps my hands occupied and the rest of me out of mischief.

tons of my coworkers do some kind of city, non-professional, goofy intermural, dodge-ball league. if i lived closer in the city, i'd likely try to join. i've since learned that stuff like this exists all over, color me ignorant.

You could join an Internet forum. I hear they can be fun and a great way to dispose of all that pesky free time.

Theatre is great for social geeks. You are all thrown together in the forced process of making something happen at a specified time. If you aren't the auditioning type, volunteer to run stage crew for a local/community/college production. You. Will. Meet. People. Don't bother with ushering, that'll get you out of the house, but not meeting people.

I just looked again at my uni's clubs list (I used to work in the Guild as an exec member) and under Religious/Spiritual is the Pastafarian Seaciety. Somehow this club managed to make the minimum requirements of 40-50 people to get listed.

MUST JOIN.
