I have a please-help-me-pair-this-skirt-with-a-top question! →[More:]
I recently bought this skirt, which is a sort of crepe-y cotton with a stretchy waistband and drawstring. It falls to just below my knees, and the drape looks fuller on me, since I'm pretty short and small.

I'm trying to pair a top with it. I wore this with it tonight, but I feel like it's maybe a little too matchy-matchy. The print on the skirt only has three colors (black, peach, and maroon), and I'm having a hard time finding another complementary color. What sort of style and color do you suggest?

If it matters, I have dark skin (South Asian) with a more yellow-gold undertone.

I would really appreciate any suggestions, and thanks in advance!

Yes, I would go with white too, and with a necklace and earrings or bangle that pick up the peach and maroon.

That maroon top is cute. I don't think it's too matchy-matchy. I like that it is fitted to balance the fullness of the skirt. I'd probably do black or stick with the maroon or dark pink color. Since you are petite, a fitted boat or scoop-neck t-shirt with cap sleeves would be cute. White would be cute too. It's summery. Do all three.

fitted top - either a white (same as the light on skirt) or a very flattering black (makes top half look even slimmer)

Cute skirt! I don't think the maroon is too matchy-matchy either. I see brown/khaki in the skirt for some reason...maybe it's just the way the colours show up on my screen?

What about teal or a deep purple?

I also think the maroon top is nice. But if you don't like that, I would go for a black top. A white top would be nice as well but I like the contrast that a darker top would provide to the all white background of the skirt. I also agree that a fitted top would look good and either a tank top like your maroon one or cap sleeves as Lori suggested.

phoenixc: The maroon in the skirt matches the maroon top almost exactly. :)

I was worried about wearing black with it, since the top part of the skirt is black. It wouldn't create a defined line.

Yeah, something fitted. I vote for black too; I don't think the undefined line is a problem at all.
