MeCha Radio: This are your DJ. Western music, with diversions, for the next two hours until 11:30PM (er, 11:38) PST. Your flight departs from Bulgaria, and then...
those last two are great. Jessie Evans? Pop Levi? Can u explain?
It's a shame we can't do tagging sets. Some day...

Oh he was in Ladytron. Makes sense.
My Bloody Valentine sample. Just got my tix in the mail today.
posted by Hellbient 30 May | 23:52
Oh it was MBV sampling MBV. Duh.

Jessie Evans I got by Googling Budgie (ex-Siouxsie) because a friend and I were wondering what happened to him after he and Siouxsie got a divorce. I found her because he apparently worked on Jessie's debut album... I'd never heard of her before, but I love it - very dubby, abstract, artsy late-'70s-girl-wave, Judy Nylon/Lora Logic sorta stuff.

Pop Levi I found through the blogosphere. "Dita Dimone" is on his new album coming out this summer. I like him more than I like Ladytron by some distance! His other stuff is kinda Supergrassy - he has that Gaz Coombes voice.

Got my MBV tix for L.A. too :-)

Tagging sets would really kick butt, and keep you on your toes: what are they playing, and what do I have that'll go with what's being played? The 20 second lag might kill that unless all parties were on the phone to each other. Something to think about.

Also - mykescipark: digging the set.
posted by Zack_Replica 30 May | 23:56
but what if it was two people playing an app on a web page? Can someone make that happen?
posted by Hellbient 30 May | 23:59
My apologies to any listeners who are looking to rock out. We're going into a mellow dip here for a little bit. My first Friday night in for weeks...
posted by mykescipark 30 May | 23:59
no worries.
Yeah, the novelty of Ladytron wore off quick for me. But I haven't kept up very well, either.
posted by Hellbient 31 May | 00:04
Hmm. What app on what page?
The phone call thing'd work because the current player'd be able to tell the next player when the song'd be ending on their computer. 20 seconds later, it'd be finished playing on the listener's computer.

(caster's comp. -> server -> listener = ~20 seconds, though I've never timed it.)

Yeah, I guess it doesn't exist yet. It'd allow people to play sets together, like a real tag-teaming DJ set. Somebody get busy please.

i hate to say this, but I'm headed for the insides of my eyelids. Cheers.

g'night Hellbient!

That's the nice thing about being on the West Coast, I guess. You outlive everybody. DJ Methuselah in the haus!

Hey, as an interim solution, a muxtape. One person creates a tape name & login and gives the login info to X others who want to participate, and we upload songs that way? It'd make for an interesting mix, trying to one-up/stump the next person. Then the people who can't tune into the MeCha radio will get a taste of the multi-dj radio idea. Maybe call the tapes MeCha One through numbers *whatever*, allowing different mixes like punk, classical, industrial, 80's, whatever.

Ok. More ideas. And I'm probably only talking to you, myke, but anyways...... ages ago there was a thread posted by klangklangston where you posted a song based on something from the song title before it... maybe the same idea could apply. It was a sweet idea that hasn't been redone. Since some people post via DivShare (who'll keep your music up forever it seems) and some post via SendUIt (who'll keep the music only a little while), this'll allow song lists to be kept until the next round, X amount of time later. I'm guessing we could probably make as many muxtapes as we need.
What do you think?
posted by Zack_Replica 31 May | 00:41
As long as we can maintain the "Night Boat to Cairo"-style nonsequitur/derail in every one of our mixes, I'm game.

In fact, I think every single mix has to have "Night Boat to Cairo" in it.

I like the muxtape idea indeed, and kling's could be pretty funny to implement.

(Serverwise, I host all my own stuff, so I can keep it up for eternity with no worries.)

Or, keeping things simpler, two people could just agree to DJ together, with one person controlling the songs. The other person, hearing what's played, chooses the next song by IMing the other person. If they need the mp3, they could just send it to them.
