AskMeCha: Edible parts of rhubarb? →[More:]So we got delivery of someone's country-house rhubarb
en masse. We got everything -- leaves, stalks, seedstalks and seedpods.
We know the leaves have the oxalic acid, and have no use for the seeds. (We have some of our own rhubarb plants that have been producing poorly the last few years and probably need dividing.) I understand most rhubarb seeds don't result in plants ever or if they do not right away.
My question is about a) the big hollow seedstalks themselves, and b) the leaves poking out of one. My mother says both a) and b) are inedible. I say a) is inedible, but there's no reason that b) is, since they're basically the same as leaves directly from the roots as far as I can tell.
I guess there's c) which is that all of the stalks we got out of this trunk-full of greenery amount to about one rhubarb pie, and they're all pretty green, which means they may not be as flavorful as we normally are used to anyway.
Please hope me,
