BP Radio: Friday Night Freak-Out edition! Starting at 11 pm EDT (15 mins. from now)
Heh - great minds and all that - I was thinking of doing a show and being half-assed about it. This saves me the trouble!
Of course I could always go on after you... maybe I will. I was thinking of going a Goth/EBM show that's just about guaranteed to bring (almost) no listeners whatsoever. Whatever.
I'm waiting....
I think her album is excellent, start to finish. I gather she's a little tiresome if you follow the gossip and whatnot, but I don't, so it's just a fun little album with some really hilarious lyrics.
Ah, jeez.. sorry for the sudden derail. I was adding songs to the playlist and must have double-clicked. Hope you were wearing a seat belt when the Pixies barreled in there.
Oh! M B M!! They'se ossum. I've got the Storm The Studio 2x LP which blows the lid off of most stuff... that is supposed to blow lids off of things. or something.
Zack, seeing MBM live was a highlight of my life. The bass was so deep weird shit was happening with my clothes... like they were crawling around on my body and stuff. Fucking awesome.
Holy crap you saw them?! I love it when groups do interesting things live. I saw Einstürzende Neubauten a bunch of years ago - the bassist licked his palm and stuck the lead to his bass in his hand. With his other he touched pieces of metal on the stage, and every time he grounded himself, there was a different bass sound to it. He actually got recognizable tones out of it. very cool.
Yep, I saw MBM open for The Prodigy, and they totally upstaged 'em. (The Prodigy were cool, but not at the same level as MBM.)
The closest I've come to your Einstürzende Neubauten story (I'm not sure I'd have even had the nerve to go see them live, knowing how "experimental" it would probably be) is the few times I've seen Sonic Youth live. I saw them on the tour where they played opening act for Neil Young, and when they left the stage they propped all their guitars on the speakers to set up this HOWLING storm of feedback, and it ran for at least ten minutes until roadies started running out and dismantling the setup. That was cool. :)
Feedback - yah - saw Nine Inch Nails before he got super-huge. They played the Luv-A-Fair. Reznor played every song off of Pretty Hate Machine and "Get Down Make Love" (the Queen cover), which at the time was all the songs they had, and he crawled off stage through the drum kit (literally), leaving his guitar shrieking feedback until they turned down the monitors. Earlier on he also (again, literally) kicked the other guitarist off stage as they'd been shoving each other thru the whole show. Dude shot off stage like a rocket, and didn't stop playing. Rawk!
The first time I saw NIN he had this unknown Florida band called Marilyn Manson opening for him, and we thought they sucked. (I am now a huge fan, but really, they've improved a lot since those days.)
Great tune stack BoPo! That March Violets had me guessing - it sounded familiar, but I couldn't think of who it was - at one point I guessed it was a REAL rocking Sisters of Mercy song, but then I remembered that they never rocked that way. And I always love hearing the Marv3.
This NIN cover is one of my all time faves. They're faithfull to the Queen version while still totally making in a NiN song. And it's soooo much sleazier this way.
Fuck - this Thrill Kill Kult cut is fantastic. I definitely don't remember liking anything by them as much as I'm liking this. I may have to give them another try and pick something up.
Slack, check out the albums "13 Above The Night" (which that song was from) and "Hit-And-Run Holiday." Those are their peak albums, and really all you need to hear.
Russian Futurists!?!?!?! It took about 2 seconds to spot their distinctive sound. You have some great taste BoPo. I want to go to bed, but I want to keep listening (and then I want to put on the first Russian Futurists album).
I still have huge respect for YOUR taste after the bunny-mix CDs from a year or so ago, so that's a huge compliment. I'm almost done though, and I think Zack_Replica is about to play, unless he's gone to bed. His sets are always good, so I don't know what to tell ya... caffeine, man.
OK, Foetus is the last song... thanks for listening, y'all! This was a lot of fun, and I didn't think there'd be so many folks on this weekend. Hugs all around! :)
(Also, Zack, if you're ready, this is the last song...)
