Treats: Things you enjoy, but best only occasionally. [More:] What are some things for you that are best done annually, quarterly, whatever?

Me:

Watching "Jaws" - annually. It IS memorial day weekend, that's what I just did, so the inspiration for the post.

Pot - a little more than quarterly

Black olives - quarterly

Ugly Betty - twice a year

Hiking - annually, and mildly

Hotels - any chance I can get, but say twice a year.

Swimming - a little more than quarterly. See also, sauna or steam room.

The ocean - please please please annually, but it doesn't always happen.

Chrsitmas I enjoy about every other year.

Fried Oysters - I try for annually, but it doesn't always happen.

A road trip - annually.

Pancakes. About twice a year I jones for a big pancake breakfast. Then I eat too much and feel sick for a few hours--long enough to put me off 'em for another 6 months.

Fish and chips. Actually, I only like the way they are done in New Zealand, so I only get them every few years now, but when I lived there it was about every 6 months. Then I would do exactly as mullacc does with pancakes, eat way too much and feel sick.

Steak. About once a year, when wife and kid are gone, I will broil a could Porterhouses or T-bones, and share one with dog and cats. We all have a good time.

They don't get any of my beer though.

Pâté, maybe once or twice a year. (Not fois gras, I hasten to add. I will never set foot in a restaurant that serves it, much less eat it myself.) Every now and again I'll get a small piece of rustic pâté with peppercorns and have a nice snack.

I enjoy McDonalds every month or so. I've started eating it right before every monthly church council meeting; makes the meeting that much more fun!

Glacier Burger. It's a start-of-the-summer ritual, but my body can't handle it more often. And also I don't want to make the four-hour drive and see all of my family more often than that.

Every once in a while, less and less often these days, I crave either the McD's double cheeseburger or a chicken sandwich and a small fries.

I LOVE the occasional really, really good sushi from our excellent local place. OMG. We can't afford to eat there often, but when we do, it's SO good. (Might get to have happy hour sushi there tomorrow. Hooray!)

The pho from our fairly recently opened Vietnamese/Chinese restaurant (my first and, really, only, introduction to the goodness that is pho). Their Sezchuan chicken and veggies is also quite good. My honey has done his best to replicate their pho, using a traditional recipe, but it's still not quite the same, although wonderful.

This particular brand of frozen egg rolls, the name escapes me, but with hoisein and hot mustard sauce. 20 minutes in the oven and Oh Yum. Better than any of our local restaurants.

Black olives - quarterly

Heh. Me, too. Once every few months I will eat an entire can of Lindsay's black pitted olives. Reminds me of when I was a kid and put them on my fingers, pretending they were miniature soldiers of the bearskin cap variety.

An entire bag of SmartFood at once. A big bag. A few times a year.

Maple sugar is good once a year. Usually I have had enough when I hit the end of the 2 inch maple leaf.

This makes me feel like a grownup because for many years, all i wanted in life was to: 1. Be left alone by my parents and
2. Drink maple syrup all day.
For my birthday all throughout elementary school, we would go on a tour of a sugaring factory that culminated in drinking a dixie cup full of fresh maple syrup at the end. It was the best!

Now I am old and the last time I drank straight maple syrup was as a particularly poorly advised chaser after vodka shots.

oh man! in no particular order:

1. going to the movies by my lonesome to see a movie only I wanna see.

2. eating Mac and Cheese from the box when I'm sick.

3. Eating Top Ramen in the wee hours of the morning.

4. indulging in expensive wine (mostly Burgundies)

5. setting myself on fire (wink)
